Question for a Launch-FAQ

By Ser Nakata, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

I thought it'd be nice to have a post to gather the rule questions that will probably not be addressed in the core rulebook :

My First question is :

Do you bid when you play "I can swim" or do you check your honor dial for your last bid?
I think you'd have to actually bid when playing the card. Otherwise it'd be clunky, as it would mean the dial should always stay untouched unless you bid and this is the kind of thing you could easily fidget with. :P

I was of the opinion that it could only be played just after doing something which required an honour bid, during a conflict. For example, after a duel.

The card does not say anything about making a bid so you better do not touch that dial after having used it for card draw (or a duel)? For all we know, the rules may state that you cannot fidget with the dial. Still, a good question.

I hope FFG will have a "learn to play" as well as a rules reference in the core box, similiar to Arkham Horror, in order to not have a need for a FAQ at the launch.

Learn to play + Rules Reference seems to be the standard for FFG nowadays. Based on the preview pictures, I'm assuming the learn to play game will be Lion vs. Crane with prebuilt decks, with other prebuilt deck lists at the end of the LtP book.

I'm pretty sure the rule on the dial will be don't fidget with it, unless you have a card effect that adjusts it.

It certainly seems to me that it indicates the Honor bid during the Draw phase. After the bid has been made, it would seem easy to just put your dials aside until needed again. Also, it wouldn't seem particularly difficult to recall how much each player bid only minutes after the bid took place :)

Yes,I know, but I find it more interesting to play a mind game with your opponent. Do you bid high to discard his character, or low to make him lose honor? Or in between? :)

That's way more interesting than a straight discard because your bid was the highest in the draw phase.

It didn't stop the need to have an FAQ a few months afterwards, though.
