Creature/Brawler Imperial Class Deck

By sabsben, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Has anyone done anything like this? I'm thinking about putting something together focusing on creatures and a sub bonus on melee characters. It would have things mobility, bringing massive inside, ignoring habitat restrictions and take some inspiration from skirmish command and attachment cards. Would other people be interested in a deck like this? Have any thoughts about it?

0 xp- Exhaust this card at the beginning of a figures activation, that figure gains 2 movement points. You may ignore habitat and open group restrictions on Creatures.

1xp- Attachment Creature only Ignore the restrictions on moving Massive figures to interior tiles.

1xp- Exhaust this card at the start of a figures activation. That figure discards 1 Harmful condition then suffers 1 damage.

2 xp-Exhaust this card while attacking an adjacent figure to gain (surge) Recover 2

2xp- Attachment Large or Massive only. +3 health. When you enter a space containing a hostile figure you may deplete this card to deal 3 (damage) to that figure.

3 xp- Exhaust this card during a Brawler’s activation. That figure gains (Special Action): Chose an adjacent hostile figure. That figure may not voluntarily exit a space adjacent to yours until the end of the round.

3xp- If a Brawler at half health or lower, is attacking apply +1 surge to the attack results.

4xp- All Brawlers gain Reach, if they already have Reach they gain +1(damage) instead.

4xp- Exhaust this card during a figures activation that figure gains (2x Special action) If you have the (melee) attack type, perform 2 attacks. 2 Threat: Ready this card.

Cheers

Kind of a Mandela-Effect moment (:P) but for some reason I already assumed there was a creature themed class deck. Looking at the databases, that seems not to be the case. Weird.

But yeah, I'd be down. I'd love for more creatures to make it to Imperial Assault. Mynocks could be a neat addition, seeing as we already seem to have co-opted the X-Wing stand strategy with Jet Troopers.

Maybe you're thinking of the Creature-themed agenda sets (there are ~2 of them, I think?).

That's probably what it is.

See, these Mandela Effect things always have a rational explanation.

I was hoping there would be a class like this in JR... the ones we got are pretty cool too though.

Not sure about removing the Massive/Interior space restriction. I think some missions get pretty stupid if you can just drop a Rancor on the objective... Maybe you could replace it with removing Non-sentient, and getting some free movement points?

I like the one about damaged brawlers gaining +1 surge. Maybe you should extend it to all units though, and have it active when they've suffered 3 or more damage. Normally classes have some type-specific abilities, and some that are useful to all figures. Or like the new Merc deck, they're just stronger on Merc units.

The one that gives ~ Recover 2, that could be "~+1 damage, Recover 2" like they're taking a bite out of them

There are a lot of cool things you could do though!

2xp? Pack Hunting - Exhaust this card at the end of an activation and choose a space. Each Brawler within 4 spaces of the chosen space gains 1 movement point.

3 XP Savage Blows - Exhaust this card while a Creature is attacking. The attack gains: Cleave 2.

1-2 XP Beast Tamer - Attachment - Leader only - +2 HP | While a friendly Creature within 2 spaces is attacking or defending, it may reroll one defence die.

I like the idea of a creature imperial class deck but we are sort of limited in creatures right now and they don't really all fit well in a single terrain type:

We have: nexu, wampas, rancor...plus bantha rider and dewback rider right?

From the movies there aren't a whole lot more to bring in: mynocs (already mentioned), tauntauns and a couple prequel creatures. Maybe there's something cool to bring in from the EU?

I don't think we'll see rathtars until they release the new core box for episodes 7+.

I'd love an acklay, but I don't know how they'd be able to do one. It'd have to be like a 3x3 at least, and that just seems silly on most maps.

A Reek would be neat, though, and pretty doable. As would Kath Hounds.

A reek would be cool. Maybe mounted.

I also like the idea of a cybernetic-augmented creature. For instance, in Marvel's Star Wars comic there's been a cyborg-rancor.

I like the original idea of the creature/brawler, which is slightly less limited. You could use a 0 XP card to apply -3 accuracy when brawlers or creatures are attacked or something similar. Also, a card that gives additional movement points to brawlers/creatures like stomp burger's Pack hunting would be a must buy.

Oh man I really like pack hunting, gameplay wise and thematically thats just stellar.

Yeah even with all the packs we still only a few creatures but I figured I'd try and get the most out of them. Mynok swarm would be great.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I would suggest making sure exactly half and half are brawler and creature based abilities.

For instance, both your 3xp abilities are brawler based, and pretty much both the 4xp ones are too.

If you want to combine the two traited units into one class, make sure the Imperial can decide to focus on one or the other if they want, with splashes from the other should they choose.

If more than half of the cards are brawler, then the creature build would be significantly weaker.

edit: EH. most of the creatures appear to be brawlers anyways...

I just read that comic earlier this week, actually. We're already getting Triple Zero and BT, so they're clearly not ignoring the comics.

A cybernetic rancor on the Imperial side would be pretty cool, and could lead to some neat rancor v rancor fights between mercs and imps in skirmish.

It makes me wonder, if you had a cybernetic creature, would that figure get both the creature and droid keywords? I can see the argument that cyborgs are not droids but it might be fun when building droid lists etc if cyborgs were included. In the past this hasn't been the case, ex Vader (Brawler, Force User).

I think it should have both.

For Vader, I view him certainly as part machine, but from a marketing perspective I think it would be weird as a fan to see him have the "droid" keyword, however semi-accurate that is.
