Raptor's Custom Cards (New N-1 Starfighter)

Well. I have a new Clone Wars era project. The fast and nimble V-19 Torrent.

Ok. With Thanksgiving break starting, I went ahead and made the V-19 Torrent.

Well, here she is. The V-19 Torrent, in game, is a relatively cheap, fast, and agile knife fighter for the Rebels. The stat bar isn't that impressive, but we are talking about a ship from the beginning of the Clone Wars not a TIE Defender. While her stats aren't much to look at, the Torrent's dial is unique. All standard speed 1 maneuvers are green, and she has a pair of speed 1 S-Loops. This combined with it's filled speed 2s gives the Torrent high low speed agility, and giving it something unique in the process.

Speaking of unique, the two "named" pilots, Renegade and Cypher Leader (if anyone has better names please tell me), each bring a different advantage to this old dog of a fighter. Renegade gets a defensive bonus for facing his attacker. It doesn't matter whether the attacker has a turret or not, as long as you have them in arc, you get an extra defense die. On the contrary, Cypher Leader's ability helps to improve the chances that his two attack primary will actually hit something, and strips tokens at the same time. Along with these pilots, the title gives the Torrent a slight edge at close range by eliminating an attacker's range bonues.

The other two upgrade cards allow should help any fighter get an upper hand. Desperation give you two bonuses. When on the "Engaging" side, if you don't have a focus or target lock, you can flip it to the "Disengaging" side to be spent like a focus token. Then, if you lack a focus or evade token, you can flip the card while defending to change your blanks into evades. Then you have Ordinance Reloader. This card lets fighters with a single missile or torpedo slot gain access to the Reload action, and give them a chance to possibly use their ordinance slots for a change.

I like this a lot. I'm gonna mock up and post my own take on the Torrent.

I've even got an "ordinance reloader", but it's _different_ than yours. :)

Thanks. Can’t wait to see your take on it.

Where did you get the reload action icon, btw?

Check out Odana’s page. Him and gabe68 gave me some images of ones they made. Then I used MS Paint.

Ah ha! Thanks. :) I literally just stole the one on your page, because I was frustrated that I couldn't find one on Strange Eons. I hope they update it soon with the bullseye arc and the Reload action...

Same.

I wanted something that was clearly in line a prototype B-Wing, but also has an interceptor role. That's why this ship also has the bullseye arc. I'll update this card to mark that as soon as the Strange Eons plugin is updated. I'd update it myself, but I have no idea how.

fvh4sWc.jpg

The dial Look at that sweet, sweet green to red ratio! And only the one white maneuver. That's gonna be, uh. Wait. I has no banks. How the heck does this thing do its thing?! What? Ok. About that.

The V-19 was notoriously difficult to learn to fly- which is why it wasn't in wider service during the Clone Wars. However, for those who learned the quirks of this craft, it was both fast and nimble. With this title, the V-19 can change directions depending on needs.

So that's my first pass at the Torrent. What do folks thing?

Definitely interested. I kinda like the dial that looks a bit skimpy until you see the title. I’m curious about where you found the difficult to fly part, cause I never saw that?

The "difficult to fly" bit is from Wookiepedia's legend section on the ship- though I think the information it's drawing from is canon (Wookipedia often claims Clone Wars is a non canon source).

Also this bit from the Star Wars Databank "V-19s were tricky to fly, as the bounty hunter Cad Bane discovered when he stole one to escape from the Jedi Cruiser Resolute." To be honest, I've always envisioned it as a weird, ungainly mess that is difficult to fly but packs a heck of a punch in the correct hands.

Oh yeah. I remember that now. Well, you definitely have a neat design for it.

It's a cool concept, but you've basically got an A-wing with a barrel roll instead of boost, no second EPT and more appropriately costed pilots. Like the A-wing, the points invested into anything except the PS1 blocker will largely be wasted due to the teeny attack.

I'd suggest a 4-5 point alternate title that allows them to perform a second attack after performing a primary weapon attack, once per round. This should give the aces the firepower they need without straying into well-used arc-dodger territory.

Huh.... Interesting idea. I’ll think about it. Maybe call it “Rebel Refit” like what they did with the ARC?

Well, as usual, I’m working on something no one asked for, but could be cool. The YKL-37R Nova Courier. latest?cb=20111223211535

I will say I found this while working on something else, but I need to catch up with Rebels.

I kinda like it, but increase costs and/or limit the dial. This is just way too good. In it's capabilities it's more like the TAP. Similar stats, a 1 point title, 4 actions, missile slot and green 1 turns.

I'd say increase the cost of all pilots by 2. The title is pretty strong for 1 point too.

Awesome work! I love the Torrent, one of my favorite ship designs. One thing I'd like to see is a Heroes of the Clone Wars aces pack with some Imperial pilots for both the ARC-170 and V-19 Torrent. Keep up the good work!

I see what ya mean. I’ll do some cost increases.

Ok. So I agreed with what @RufusDaMan said earlier, so I made some slight modifications to the Torrent. The Dial no long has green hard ones, and each pilot is a squad point more. The title also went up by one point. And Ordinance Reloader is now Ordnance Reloader.

They are great now. Cheap missile carriers with a versatile, but limited dial. Good job.

I would like to introduce the YKL-37R Nova Courier.

This large ship is actually an interesting one for me, since it's my first cross faction ship. So, let's start with the stats. So, the Nova Courier has decent stat line with 3 attack, 1 evade, 7 hull, and 3 shield, so basically a YT-1300 with less defense. What makes the ship unique are its upgrades and action bars. The upgrade bar has two crew and two missile slots. With is, the action bar has focus, target lock, and reload. The combination reload and the pair of missile slots comes from the fact that the YKL-37R has 3 missile tubes with 12 missiles each. Along with this, it has a not so great dial.

Then there's it's two unique pilots and crew, twin smugglers Orpa and Wex Vio. So, since the only thing you can find about them is that they own a Nova Courier, I just gave them the same pilot skill. Both pilots abilities play off these ships ducking into asteroid fields, and the same goes for their crew cards. Along with that, Orpa's cards focus on defense, while Wex cards focus on offence.

Finally, there's a pair of dials. The Nova Courier's discontinued status and easy modification lead to the Limited Production title. Basically, it lets you trade missile slots for other slots. That's all it really does. The second title, Lucky Guess , represents the Vios' ship, and lets you take a free reload action after a primary weapon attack. The primary only is key, since it keeps you from just firing missile/torpedoes like a mad man.

Well, hope y'all like it, and Merry Christmas!

Well. I mentioned I was working on something else, and that was just Iron Squadron at first. Then I saw the Rebels episode "Rebel Assault" and decided to do Phoenix Squadron X-wings to (partially because I was already working with Mart). Still trying to iron out some details, but I wanted to see what y'all though about these up coming ace pack style customs.

Thanks for posting the Nova Courier. I actually have a model of the ship I got from shapeways. I always thought it looked cool so I bought it on a whim. I have just been using it as a proxy for large based ships I don't have. This will be cool though and I will be printing these off to go with it.

Glad you like it. After you fly it would you mind telling me how it performs?
