Does Kallus make Quad Laser Turret worth it?

By Hrathen, in Star Wars: Armada

Since we know that Counters count as attacks so they can be modified by things that modify attacks. If you put Kallus and a Quad Laser Turret on the same ship then you could conceivably roll a blue and a black against anyone who tried to bomb you (without Rhymer of course). Sounds pretty good. I wonder if it would just make it so unique squadrons just attack you other ships.

Has anyone tried this?

It depends.

On a Raider its not a great idea as the Raider will die very fast if its intended to take bomber damage. An ISD can tank a lot so it works very well there, but then you have to look at your whole fleet, why would they shoot the Kallus QLT ship?

Quad Laser Turrets have a place.

... its generally not in normal games.

But they've helped me score points playing Imperials in Corellian Conflict - when I never have to worry about Rhymer .

I think QLT is good to put on any ship as it is. The only time you don't get value is if your opponent does not bring any squads.

1 damage can add up pretty quickly. Then you can take an anti-squadron shot and sweep the field.

But to answer your question, yes, Kallus and QLT is a very good combo. I run him on ISD Is and Raiders. I will be running him on the Quasar since it has red AA which means I'm tossing black AA at long range now.

I was actually considering the QLT on my CC ISD. It is a rebuild, so I know what fighters my opponents have, and they do tend to have a few but unique fighters. The original draw was rolling 2 blue and 1 black against my enemy fighter ball. And Unique Fighters have added value in CC because you can kill them for good and because they can become veterans.

I'm not sure if it is worth being my only ISD upgrade though.

Yes.

In the Vassal World Cup I ran a X-mas three ISD-II, with QLT and Kallus. The combination of Gunnery Teams + Kallus, and QLT + Kallus, plus other AS tech, made it somewhat worthwhile.

Actually, only 1 player out of like 7 matches took a stab at shooting at that ISD with squads. It nearly died - but not quite.

So yes, there is some merit to it.

However, I missed Ion Cannon Batteries more, and regretted having taken the QLT instead.

So there.

Is this one of those 2nd best options.

It doesn't really matter how good the 2nd tier list is, you should always pick a better 1st tier list.

*Tier

Warlord + H9 + QLT = Take 1 damage for the privilege of bombing me.

Its far from the best ship but I'll be dam*ed if its not one of my favorites to fly. There's just something completely satisfying about declaring all squadrons in my front arc take 1 damage.

OTOH, if you enemy didn't bring any squadrons (or just brought air defense squadrons that aren't anywhere near your ship)...

...you've just spent as much as buying Maarek Stele to do absolutely nothing all game*. Pretty sure a 21-pt initiative bid would have even served you better in that case...

(*Okay, sure, H9 + Warlord is a free single-red-to-double-red conversion, but that's hardly worth the points and slot usage most the time)

Warlord + H9 works with every shot. Squadron, ship, it doesn't matter. So if my opponent didn't take any squadrons (which in the current meta is a very unlikely if) then I spent 5 points on QLT that will receive no use. I'll still be using Warlord + H9 all day. Its perfect for popping flotillas that get just a bit too close along with many other things.

But again I already conceded that its far from being the best ship. I guess your want me to say it again? You're right Demo and Maarek stele are better investments. But I'm going to have more fun flying Warlord. So to each their own.

Edit

Spelling is hard

Edit 2

Just had another thought that in most of my games flying the above combo QLT acts as a complete bomber denial. For 5 points it almost guarantees (at least in my experience, other's my vary) bombers that aren't backed up by Rhymer will ignore Warlord and go after other less prickly targets.
