I think that it is odd they say the clans that put duty first start with lower honor. It makes sense for the Crab and Scorpion clans. But that description doesn't really work for the Lion, whom are all about honor and duty.

One of the themes of the setting is that honor and duty sometimes have conflicting demands. If you are a Lion bushi and you have been ordered to defeat some enemy but the only current solution is to resort to dishonorable methods, what do you do? Duty requires you to get the job done. Honor requires that you limit yourself to certain means.

Can someone explain (if we know yet) how the bold bit works?

Quote

Fire — Choose a character in play and honor or dishonor that character. ( Honoring or dishonoring a character has a potent effect on that character’s skill, and causes you to gain or lose honor when that character leaves play. )

Does it mean if you have an honorable player and they leave play you lose honor? And vice versa for a dishonorable player?

I'm assuming it's the opposite. If your character dies while honorable, you gain honor while you lose some if the character dies dishonorably.

Core set with exactly one black scroll. That'd be fun

It's hard to tell... My assumption is that if someone on your side that is dishonorable dies, then that's a good thing. :)

Not for your family, not in Rokugan ;)

I assume it means that when an honorable character leaves play you gain honor (probably their glory in honor) and the opposite for dishonored characters. It looks like the Crane clan is going to have lot of ways to honor their characters, and it would be weird if that theme worked against their other theme of winning through honor.

Well put. There is certainly an interesting story component to honor and doing one's duty being inversely correlated.

They mentioned in one of the three first batch of articles last week that if an honorable person leaves play, you gain honor equal to their glory, and the revers for dishonorable. Remember, leaving play is not always death, but rather leaving the story. Would you rather have one of your people's stories end with them being honorable, or dishonorable?

Seems to me that it could be neat to do a cycle of Black Scroll themed dynasty packs with 2 Black Scrolls in each pack.

Had a thought... any chance we will get any black scrolls in the core set?

I hope that if they do carded Black Scrolls that they give them that sickly green inverse colors look that the original ones had.

Can you cite the exact place you found this? I've been looking for that exact line and haven't found it yet.

I am afraid I can not, which I know is not helpful. Might have been in the AMA. But I do very much believe I have read that in one of their official releases.

Yeah, we were discussing it in Discord last night, and while many of us have the memory of that being the case, none of us could actually produce the source. I was just wondering if you knew where it cropped up. If anyone else does, that'd be a big help.

https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/legend-of-the-five-rings-the-card-game/ under the "read more" in the Honor section.

Edit never mind does not mention loss of honour thought it was there....

The closest line I can find is this one under Ring of Fire: " Honoring or dishonoring a character has a potent effect on that character’s skill, and causes you to gain or lose honor when that character leaves play."

It doesn't state there that it's equal to their glory though. That's the specific thing I'm looking for.

(I went through both initial articles line by line last night looking for the honor/dishonor gain and loss glory connection.)

Possibly an induced assumption based on original L5R mechanics...

I don't think they've mentioned the amount yet. We were speculating on the whole glory thing, since it makes sense.

Yeah, that's what we're trying to figure out. It seemed a lot of us had that same assumption, so we were sure someone had read it somewhere.

Pretty sure someone speculated it early on in the post, and we all went with it since it made a lot of sense.

Edit Oh! At some point didn't they mention that "Personal honor and Honor Requirement" got 'replaced' by glory?

Edit 2: From the Product Page:

Characters — Characters in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game take on a different form than the characters in the CCG. First, characters now feature different stats reflecting their military and political skill instead of the force and chi stats. These new skills are used in the revised conflict system that we discuss below. Characters no longer have honor requirements, and their personal honor is incorporated into their glory and the Honored / Dishonored status cards.

Exactly this.

Honored characters when leaving play give some amount of honor.

Dishonored characters when they leave play lose you some amount of honor

Honorable characters gain stat bonus = to glory

Dishonorable characters lose stat = glory

They mentioned that glory is several things rolled into one stat, including personal honor.

What we DON'T have is a direct quote saying gain/lose honor equal to glory. I am going to continue assuming it works that way though. It makes a lot of sense and is consistent.

Okay then, which one?

To be honest I don't know what each one does individually.

It would be neat as a way to setup and foreshadow narrative is what I meant.

Which would you want?

Plagues are always good for foreshadowing trouble on the horizon. So... the Wasting Disease?

Which scroll did Yogo Junzo open first in the AEG canon?
