Dynasty Article is up

By Silver Crane, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

And more pretty artwork too! :D

Cool! I just started a thread but consider mine closed (I've pasted the link to yours for convenience going forward)

Read 50% and already love everything.... including the Phoenix personality!

Not to mention new awesome cards.

So it's pretty clear lion rush will be based on flipping face-down provinces up to recruit more people. That is an interesting tactic. Pretty sneaky, FFG.

Dragon Player: "My Mirumoto Terminator with four fate and many attachments, who happens to be dishonored, attacks your province number 2."

Scorpion Player: "I can swim."

Dragon Player: <_<

It isn't clear to me, but do holdings just live in their province, not allowing you to replace it with a dude unless you discard it?

Other important note, passing means you are done for the turn, at least in the dynasty phase. I hope this is not the case for conflicts.

Also, it says "First player flips their face down cards face up." Does this mean only one person gets new cards each turn? In which case Way of the Unicorn is really powerful.

I liked the reference to that story.

I don't think they can do that. The honour dial hasn't been utilised unless a duel is started.

That guy's pretty boss, especially when there are ways to change the ring.

Conflict is after the draw phase. It will need to be played in the conflict.

" It is also important to remember that there is [no?] limit to the number of conflict cards you can have in your hand, and the more you bid, the more options you will have when conflicts occur."

Very interesting...

Actually I think it says if you pass you can no longer bring personalities in. I believe you can still play actions

I also noticed the first player flips their face down cards face up ... I hope this is typo and both players get to buy guys

-I like the little subtle things like passing first giving you an extra fate..... think balancing fate going to be so key.

They expressly say both:

Players then alternate doing one of the following: play a character card from one of their provinces, trigger an appropriate card ability, or pass. The first player to pass gains one fate, but forfeits the opportunity to play characters from provinces or trigger actions for the remainder of the dynasty phase.

I'm pretty sure that they aren't stuck in the province, but you need to spend an action to "recruit" them.

Yeah, I really hope that's a bad typo and not actually the case. Sure, you can use actions to flip cards and recruit them then, but that seems too limited.

Sorry, double post.

Yeah, me too. I really liked the thought that it wasn't really one particular player's 'turn'.

Note, honor is not related to who goes first.

Don`t for get only first person may flip... but we know nothing about cycling could leave personalities face up for next turn.

I had the same question. I think the holdings would have to be a lot more powerful in order to block a province like that.

You bring up a good point. It could be hard to afford all of your dudes each turn, and you DO get fate. Given 7-8 fate each turn, and actions costing fate, it could be hard to afford more than 1-2 dudes in a turn, and even then they wouldn't last long.

The crab holding is actually pretty powerful, since you can swap it in to a pronvince to prevent a dude from being asploded. I'm assuming you will still lose cards from a broken province, it just will refill next turn.

I like the idea of discarding repeat copies of Unique characters to give them more Fate!

Such a classic Phoenix quote on the phoenix personality..... justified hubris :)
