Worlds 2017 Prizes

By Drasnighta, in Star Wars: Armada

I only want the alt art Dodonna. If they give multiples like last time, I may have to "procure" one for a fair exchange.

Dice are cool, but I already have 3 sets. I want the rulers to have more contrast. Beige on ivory is not very nice to look at.

I really think FFG should make a new mat for Armada, or at least the grand prize. Why would there be an battle over Hoth? Unless it's only GR-75s and X-Wings against ISDs and an SSD, which means the SSD is coming. #SSDConfirmed

I'm glad everyone else is excited though. I hope everyone enjoys themselves when they get there.

Because the other "new release" mat they have this year is Starkiller Base, and that's even less likely to be an Armada Battle....

Those range rulers... *drool*

I'd love to have them all, but those range rulers take the cake for me. No question.

Same here, but I'm not going in with high expectations for 8th place... shooting for 32nd!

Agree. Not only that, I personally think the plain (starter) dice have the best "feel".

I'll definitely be rollin' my Worlds golds though :)

Yes, which is why FFG should make a mat tailored towards Armada. X-Wing can use it too. You know, since every Star Wars battle has squads.

It just seems silly to me that FFG would make mats for the "micro-battles" instead of the "macro-battles".

Why have you buy one, when they can have you buy two at twice the cost, and then suggest that every now and then, you can replace half your mat with a different cooler image...?

Its simply good Business.

It makes less sense in every other way , but in the "Taking your Dollars" sense, it makes a lotl.

I dont know, speaking from my area, everyone has a third party, high quality, big mat. But the motives are generic space, oc, not SW. But why would an Armada player use a Hoth map?

Right but the "cooler images" are tailored directly for X-Wing.

There was no big space battle over Hoth. It was a bunch of transports and fighters running for their lives.

The DS1 was a large fighter battle.

Star Killer was a large fighter battle.

I am unaware of any battle over Bespin.

So that leaves the DS2 and the blank map.

What I'm asking for is a background that was a major battle, such as Scarif. Or the battles from the books. Because those mats can be used for X-Wing as well since it makes sense for fighters to be at those places. I'm being nit-picky is all.

Thing is, how far do you want to extend that metaphor?

I mean, how many space battles do you see Raymus Antilles actually directly involved in, for example? :)

EDIT: before I even go any further....

Pretty sure there was more of an Armada Battle over HOTH than there was a Starfighter Battle Shown :D

I think we can more or less expect Scarif as the next map they produce.

I totally agree with this, too. It'll be a later release this year, and then Worlds Next year's prize.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Lothal or Chopper Base at some point too.

Chopper Base (can't recall the planet name) is actually the site of one of the largest on screen capital ship battles yet.

Indeed. Something to add to your FAQ:

If a ship is equipped with Darth Vader, Tractor Beams and Boarding Troopers ends it's movement at close range of a ship equipped with Raymus Antilles and Leia, that ship is immediately destroyed.

But the metaphor only extends to maps. I could care less about "time line" conflicts. Doing so would limit the game, where as the mats do not.

Speaking of mats, I can't wait for the Stele Open 2017 mat I ordered to come in. Aaron made a really sharp neoprene mat at 3x6 available. And while I have a vinyl one, and two X Wing Mats, I couldn't pass up the offer.

But ultimately, there really is a limit on how many a person could need (realistically).

I understand the logic/business explanation for only making 3x3 mats for Star Wars minis games, but I am one of quite a few folks that would pay good money for a high quality 6x3 NON-SLICK armada mat. I d even use blood money....

I have played on yoga mats that had a better feel than the 3x3 official mats.....Know what I'm say'n @WGNF911 !?!?

I can speak to the high quality of the mats from DeepCut Studios.

They do 3x6 in variety of materials (neoprene/mousepad included) and have quite a few space patterns.

Shipping is brutal, but they do offer a discount for large orders if you get a group together.

Brother do I ever! I'll make you one with carry strap for 50. Starfield only, no nebula or planets. @moodswing5537

Have you played with them? I ask because I have ordered two 6x3 mats and both of them are way off in size, some of them almost 2 inches either in length or width, but not from this company, from other companies.

I have 2 of there 4x4 mats that came out perfect. A friend ordered a 6x3 mat and it came out an inch too long or so.

I very much prefer my yoga mat to any purpose-made mat I've yet played on. The slightly squishy rubbered surface dramatically improves precision, and I made a sweet starfield on mine in five minutes with just a toothbrush and some watered-down white paint.
