Faction Pronunciation

By Budgernaut, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I've been watching several videos about Runewars and have noticed a lot of people struggling with pronouncing things correctly. I don't know the pronunciations for every name in the lore, but I do know the four factions. I got my pronunciations from FFG's Rune Age video. The video is cued up to where the factions are listed. I hope you find this helpful.

That was a really odd way to pronounce "Human" and "Undead".

daQAN still sounds dumb to me, and I will probably keep saying it DAQan. It bugged me so bad in the battlelore app. Also, uthUK? Nope, it's UTHuk, sorry FFG you have it wrong. I will be forever salty that they pronounce it the ugly way.

They're a pretty ugly people.

There's no pretty way to say "We're going to salt the earth when we're done eating you"

As I remember it, BattleLore: Command did say "DACK-an" instead of the "duh-KAHN" pronunciation of Rune Age.

But I care less about where the emphasis is placed and more about the shape of the vowels and overall sounds produced during saying it. I have a cousin who consistently calls them the "duh-CANE" Lords and calls the Undead faction "way-KEER." Regarding the Uthuk, I don't care if you say "OO-thook" or "oo-THOOK," but when people use an "uh" sound instead of a long "oo" sound, it grates on me.

I knew some people who said it like daquan. It was very funny until I sternly rebuked them pointing out the lack of a U. I've also heard euwthuk. That was from my wife as I recall. Nearly had a problem there.

I believe the phrase is "Gorram Reavers"

I am Latari, I am sofa king Latari

People are also struggling with Aymhelin.

"Aim-huh-Lin"?

"I'm-huh-Lin?

I say "AIM-heh-lihn," but I have no idea if that's right.

I really appreciate this Budgernaut! I've been pronouncing Daqan and Waiqar purely as Christian Petersen did at the in-flight report, which matches this video perfectly (well duh!). Latari I thought was pretty straightforward, but I was busting to know the correct way to pronounce Uthuk. Thank you very much!

Next on the list: Ynfernael

I hear that people who mispronounce "Uthuk Ylan" are eaten first.

Yes, and the Uthuk Y'llan are illiterate, so if you misspell it, you're still safe. ;)

It is un-Australian to pronounce things the same as Americans so this video is useful.

Only if they don't kill you first.

I pronounce "Aymhehlin" as "AY-meh-LIN". It's quirky having that first h in there, so I guess I just ignore it. I want videos from FFG to help us pronounce these names!

If I was a betting man, I'd put money on it being "I'm-heh-lihn" based on the way they pronounce Daqan and Uthuk. I don't know the correct lingual term, but they seem to prefer the "deeper/longer" sound in pronouncing their words...
