Table/mat size for the average game?

By Blaied, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I know the learning games are 3x3. I'm curious what people think the average or common sized games will be played on. I kinda think a 3x4 would be perfect for what I'm seeing. But I know people are buying/using 3x6 as well. That seems big to me but I haven't played a ton of games ...

Standard game from the rulebook is 3x6

3x6 is the supported 200 pt organized play field size, so that's why people are playing that. Personally I love the 3x6 size, as with 200 points of units, I'm finding that I have space to maneuver and flank!

3x6 flows perfectly for this game, would not want to play on 4x6 as is would just add an arbitrary extra turn of walking forward.

I was saying 3x4 meaning 3wide 4long. I suppose I'll have to try 3x6. Honestly playing on a 3x4 I haven't felt ....cramped or anything still seems like tons of room but I'll give the 6 a go and feel it out

Armada uses a 6x3 play area with each force setting up on the long side, meaning 3' away from each other. Most of that 6' play area is simply not used. 4x3 area would cover most games. Also, not everyone has a 6 foot long table, so that format is kind of silly. Though many game stores do cobble together tables that are slightly bigger than 6x3 to host two games of x-wing or one game of the larger format games. The 6x3 format does artificially limit the popularity of the game by restricting the amount of available space to play it.

3x3 for skirmish of 100 points, 6x3 for a full battle of 200 points.

the standard for this type of game (last i played with GW) is 4x8. most people expect a large play area.

I don't think FFG is exactly trying to mimic warhammer that closely. Runewars is certainly FFG's way of them sticking out their tongue at GW however.

totally agree. and i dont mind the 3x6. my point was its not that huge of an area for this type of game.

I don't mind the 3x6 format, 3x4 is probably enough, though I will say 3x3 is too small with the given bases.

3x6 will give you more room to maneuver which is what they are trying to encourage. make it easier to flank etc

Last we played on a 3x6, I forced my opponent into a 5 in/5 up deployment in the center and I had the entire long edge 3 up. I bulked up the middle as much as I could across from him and put my two Oathsworn on the extreme sides to force him to always think about the eventual flank attempts

Following on the lines of Armada's 3x6' play area, it is true most combat happens in a 3x3 or smaller, but the ability to deploy in a larger area is huge. Also Armada started off as 300 point battles and increased to 400. There is a campaign now that allows 500. I wouldn't be surprised to see point values increase and a need for more room.

I've found the same to be true for RMG, most of the fighting is done in toward the middle of the field or all to one side, but having the 6 across makes the deployment more interesting and the approach more nuanced.

And not just the deployment. It gives you more options for objective placement if you're savvy about how you anticipate the match-up going. If you're going to get screwed on the objective points anyways, might as well spread them out so your opponent has to spread thin to collect them, making it easier to eliminate their points.

My cavalry have been loving those extra two feet of space on the flanks.
