Question about Focus, Surges & Blocks

By Force Majeure, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

I was helping a friend prepare for Worlds & we are both still new to the game. I tried to look up the answers to these questions in the RR, but came up short.

1.) Can a figure have more than one focus at a time? Can I choose to use or not use a focus during the next attack? Do focus expire if they are not used?

2.) I attack and roll two damage and one surge. He rolls 3 blocks. Does the surge still get through so I can apply my surge ability? I'm pretty sure it does, but my friend said he thought if all the damage gets blocked, the surges wouldn't apply because they're like a secondary effect? Again, we're both very new and he wasn't being a jerk; we just weren't clear.

In this example, let's say I wanted to use the surge to add two damage. Since I rolled 2 damage + 1 surge then I can add 2 more damage by spending the surge for a total of 4 damage, correct? He rolled 3 blocks, so only 1 damage actually gets through, yes?

Thanks!

Hi,

1) You can't have the same condition twice. It MUST be used when adding up your die pool on your attack. It's not optional.

2) Look for Steps of an Attack in the RRG, it'll tell you that you spend surges before blocks are applied. Maybe what your friend was thinking of is that if 0 damage gets through, then no conditions can be applied to figures as a result of 'keywords'.

Good luck to your friend at Worlds. Most people I ran into were friendly, he should have a good time.

· Each Condition card lists when it is discarded. When this
situation occurs, discard the card or token; the figure no
longer follows the rules listed on the Condition card.

· A figure cannot be affected by multiple instances of the same
condition. For example, if a figure that is already Stunned
would become Stunned again for any reason, nothing happens.

Yes, focused must be used in the next attack or attribute test.
