Fun Combos in Spirit of Rebellion

By CBowser, in Star Wars: Destiny

Here is a combo I have been enjoying in my initial testing. Salvage Stand and Blackmail. The die for Blackmail is obviously very good. And having your opponent pay you a resource to remove it, isn't the worst thing. But using Salvage Stand to strip their resources before you roll Blackmail really lets you get the full effect of it's die. Even just he threat of Salvage Stand triggering is usually enough to get your opponent to spend their resources right away, leaving you free to Blackmail them. I've been testing out an Unkar / Jabba deck. And this combo has been a lot of fun to run.

Jabba/Unkar is anti-fun to play against. It's like wanting to play Destiny. It's all there on the table in front of you, the dice, the cards. And yet, these fat blobs of flesh are repeatedly shutting the whole playing of the game down. Weeeeeeeeeeee!

If only Blackmail cost was 2...

--- Then next turn you (Rebel) into a 2 cost Reversal again.

I love Jyn. Even more with her promo art.

I think I found even worst: Unkar/Krennic

What's needed: Imperial Inspection, Fast Hand, My Kind of Scum

Equip Fast Hand to Unkar. Activate him, 33% chance to roll a disrupt. Remove an upgrade from your opponent play with Imperial Inspection. Resolve Disrupt to remove ressources and take them with My Kind of Scum.

And "Reversal" two more times for 2 :)

Just a quick note, turns and rounds are different.

If you do it on your next turn, you're still paying 3. 1 for Rebel, 2 for Reversal.

If you do it on the next round, then you're paying 2. 0 for Rebel (assuming it's the first yellow event you play), 2 for Reversal.

Just add water...

I'm super stoked for a 2x Death Trooper/Unkar deck. Leverages Imperial Inspection really well, and Unkar's ability (plus access to yellow) lets the Death Troopers overcome their resource issues. That opens up options for more expensive support cards (vehicles), upgrades, and the almighty Endless Ranks.

Add in fast hands and My Kind of Scum, with 6 disrupt sides on your starting characters. Your opponent will never have resources to remove Blackmail....

Jabba/Unkar has been hilarious fun in testing... Actual zero damage sides in the entire deck.

Agreed. I've been having a blast playing it. It certainly fits my style.

Speaking of which, what is the verdict on this? Opponent can pay the one resource to remove that die before Fast Hands triggers? Cause, then it is not that great of a combo. Actually the text on Blackmail defeats the effect of Fast Hands, giving the opponent the opportunity to remove the die before it is resolved.

They might be triggering at the same time.

But my gut says that that Blackmail triggers first.

It triggers after rolling. Fast hands triggers after activating, which is after you've rolled. I don't know, though.

I think the trigger is simultaneous, but Blackmail is a "negative" effect (removes a die) so it takes precedence.

I think they trigger at the same time. Thus the player with the battlefield will get to choose the order.

Battlefield Control only comes into play when both players have cards they control triggering at the same time, in this case the same player controls both cards, if these do trigger at the same time the controller gets to choose the order.

"When two or more triggered abilities meet their trigger conditions at the same time, the player who is resolving those abilities chooses the order they resolve in (in the case of before abilities) or enter the queue in (in the case of after abilities). If more than one player has abilities that are simultaneous, the player who controls the battlefield chooses the order they resolve in."

I guess it depends on who is considered to be resolving the ability on Blackmail. The wording looks to me like your opponent is resolving it. But i guess a case could be made that you are resolving it since it is your card.

A Negative Effect as per page 17 is where you are "not" able to do something or "cannot" do something.
