last night my group played the Rat-Thing King quest from Shadow of Nerekhall and the knight hero basically broke Encounter 2 by teleporting across the portcullis with Oath Of Honor. I know one is allowed to count spaces through the portcullis, but that wasn't the case. In our instance, the knight and the target hero were on one side of the portcullis and the monster was on the other side.

Given a situation like that in the picture, can the Knight use Oath Of Honor to "teleport" beyond the portcullis, next to the zombie (or even a Merriod)?

Yes. The closest empty space adjacent to that zombie is in fact the square to the right of Avric and below the zombie. No rule exists which prevents "ppace within X spaces" abilities from going through a portcullis.

You may not want to hear this, but you could have prevented Syndrael from using Oath if you didn't leave your zombie adjacent to the portcullis.

Yes, this case is perfectly clear.

Though to be fair, it usually is a very bad idea to split the group, so teleporting one hero through an obstacle the others cannot pass is usually a pretty bad idea. So ideally, you should just take this as a chance to pummel the hero and have no one be able to help him / her up, though that of course requires that the hero in question does not stay next to the portcullis where they would still be in reach of healing and helping up.

That's true, and it has also been stated by FFG staff.

However, in this scenario, the square in which the hero would be placed is not even "within X spaces".

@lucaster Oath of does not prevent the Knight to be placed more than 3 spaces from his starting position. The only restriction is that the chosen hero is within 3 spaces.
