Quick question that popped up from tonight's game with VIP and GSR.

-I'm first player, with GSR on my Interdictor, which has its token placed "Before Deploying Fleets."
-Playing Capture the VIP, which has its token placed "After placing obstacles..."

Since the "After placing obstacles" step would technically come before the "Before deploying fleets" step, does my opponent get to place his VIP token before I place my GSR token?

Yep, he has to place his VIP token first, then you place the GSR.

We had a CC game tonite with a double interdictor list putting down 2 grav wells after his opponent placed the VIP token.

Except of course grav wells are placed BEFORE deploying fleets....

but after the VIP token.... so any ships hoping to get the VIP start speed 0.. he had an ET corvette that got it round 1 and got eaten by the rhymerball.
