Ancestral Teapot of the Crane

By Wintersong, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

So, anyone remember that fun stuff as the Ancestral Sword Of Whatchamacallit Clan ? Or the Ancestral Armor of Whatchamacallit Clan ? Or the Banner of the Whatchamacallit ? The Charter of the Whatchamacallit Clan maybe? Any of the other Ancestral/Celestial items?

Do you think we will get to see those again? Just the swords? How would they work within the new mono no aware and clan mechanics?

Powerful or just flavorful, I really loved getting this kind of stuff. The same as I loved getting stuff like Whatchamacallit House Guard s or Whatchamacallit Technique s of the different families. Especially when the cards also happened to be useful on some deck.

If someone wonders about the title of the thread, there was a point in my group where we joked about what kind of new Ancestral items they would release.

I was baffled by the ever expanding collection of apparent ancestral and celestial relics from a story standpoint. Seems like if they had all these items, say, any time someone commanded the Shadowlands horde and murdered thousands of people, the clans would have fared better.

I hope not, or if they return then in a very different form, like as an item that can be passed on to other chaarcters but is in itself not game breakingly powerful.

My favorite was when the Empress gave the Scorpion a Celestial NINJA-TO.

"Empress hah, hah, what a funny joke, everyone knows there is no such thing! (ixnay on the injasnay!)"

I loved beating our Lion player with The Ancestral Standard of the Lion Experienced in my Unicorn decks. That was the best thing to come from Ancestral items. :D

Considering you don't need so many filler cards in a LCG, I doubt we'll see plenty of items like these.

Some items were out of order at some points of the story, like the Unicorn armor due to lack of Shinjo champion. But yeah, baffling. And funny. Joking abut the eventual Ancestral Toothpick of Yoritomo was fun.

While I would enjoy having some kind of collection of flavourful items, I surely do not want anything over 9k. And not for the sake of filling card numbers either... Ancestral Sandals of Shinsei . Balanced cards that are actually useful are good.

Only real items that would make sense, or make me happy, to have would be an Ancestral Sword and maybe the Clan Banner. Not that we may really need those items but as we are bound to get special items, we may as well get some Kami/Clan ancestry in between them.

I could see something like that happening. Perhaps regular attachments get discarded when the character passes, but Legendary/Ancestral/Whatever attachments could move to another clan character or at least get returned to your hand. That way, their effects could still be roughly the same as other attachments while still making them special.

Well, Ancestral literally means something that has been handed down from your Ancestors, so I'd quite like Ancestral as a rules word that allows you to keep it in play somehow.

Taking previous (from another lcgs) attachment mechanics into consideration, there is very high chance we will see at least some of our attachments getting back to our hands when character passes away.
