Why is this place dead?

By ThatJakeGuy, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

This Skirmish subforum used to be a bustling place of discussion on lists and strategies but has become a bit of a ghost town. Is it because people don't really want to talk and reveal their tech for Worlds, or is it because the Jabba's Realm meta has been "solved", with eWeequay based Hunter lists being the only thing really seen on tables anymore, and thus there's not much to discuss? Or is it that the end of Regionals season means less results coming in to pore over? Or am I missing something?

Personally I've taken a bit of a break since regionals season as I burnt out a bit on the run-up.

I've been playing most weeks at my club but not posted much here and not created any videos for a bit.

Not sure on anyone else's reasons as been out of touch ?

People are discussing the lack of news, or maybe they are playing skirmish instead of talking about it.

I'm still prepping for worlds and I don't want to spoil any of the lists of the people I've been practicing with. I'll probably post an article after worlds is over with a full battle report and preparation

Ha ha, I'm the same. I am prepping for Worlds and would rather wait until afterwards to post my thoughts :-)

Are you predicting a merc take over at world's? I can't imagine a list without hunters now.

There will for sure be able lot of Scum Hunters at Worlds, but I expect the top 16 to be an interesting mix. I've also been work shopping some ideas to combat the meta. I imagine the top players will have some eclectic answers.

I'm going to wager that a lot of people moved to the Discord page.

Which sucks, IMO, as it's easier to keep track of stuff here on the forums. Stuff gets lost there after a while.

I think Mercs are the strongest faction, but DT keeps beating me on vassal with whatever list he throws together from any faction

The Discord page? Care to enlighten the ignorant among us? :-)

I've been to busy hacking ryanjamal and brettpkelly's laptop webcams to spy on their practice games to post..

I would enjoy more skirmish chatter, it isn't huge in my local area and travel isn't an option for me with a little one on the way, so I just live vicariously through you guys.

I just stopped by the discord page. It's just a long, stream of consciousness. How can they keep track of any specific posts/ideas?

Lol :-) I think the chatter will pick up more after Worlds, especially since the new droid wave will be hitting stores shortly after that and then there will be the whatever expansion that will be coming out maybe sometime we hope :-).

(Also, congrats on the little one!)

Discord is a (real-time) chat (a'la IRC), not a forum.

It's a place to holler for opponents when you want to play Skirmish on Vassal, or have a rules question you don't want to google for. :D

Different places for different uses.

Yeah I thought the same. Relatively new player, and enjoy the exchange of ideas, but the forums have been dead for IA.

i just assumed it was because FFG has gone silent on IA lately. new expansions have been on the boat for 6 weeks, no updates, no reveal at Celebration for new large box. It looks like Destiny is stealing the attention.

Kind of what I figured as well. I mean what really is there to talk about right now?

A month or so ago I was posting about how to build Vader lists, clearly being a relatively new player.

Most of the answers all explained why it just doesn't work. Maybe BT will help Vader get on the board somehow.

For now I'm piddling around with Chewie list. It's a lot easier to get him on the board and still be competitive. For major tournaments I'll go back to my scum list, but I think Chewie can hold his own right now.

I'd like to debate a bit more about which lists have the edge, though I want to see the results at Worlds first. I'd also like to see more discussions about which lists/figures have an advantage on the different maps and scenarios, and how play should change depending on which list you're facing. Also, just simply more sharing of results would be cool.

I love the game. I find I love the game more when I interact with others who are similarly engaged by discussions of strategy.

That's kind of it though. The next wave of blisters is still on the boat. We've had the Jabba's Realm stuff for a while now. People know Hunters are good. We know how Luke plays, how the Rangers do. There's not really anything to debate. If anyone has anything new and interesting, they're not going to reveal it until after Worlds. There's been no new information for a while and everything that is already out has been tested and talked about.

I'd love to talk about all that stuff, but I feel it would be unfair to the people I've been practicing with who might bring some less well known units to worlds and I don't want to give away their edge. Especially since some of the people I've played with have kicked my ass with atypical stuff. That said, if you want to see what list I think is best I'm on Vassal all the time.

Yeah, ain't much happening until the new wave. As for Worlds, I expect to see an Ug niche and I expect it to do as well as hunters. Will they win? I dunno, but I think they're going to surprise and dismay people.

Yeah, I don't want to discuss these things really before Worlds, but I'm hoping that afterwards we'll see these boards light up again. Only 9 days away!

I think there are 3 pretty popular builds we will see with some customization, Jedi Luke/Rangers, Terro/E. Jets, Jabba/E. Weequays/Vinto, and then I hope to be completely blown away by some far out there lists.

I feel like the world champ last year played it really safe, I hope he attempts something a bit more 'out there' this time. High skilled players with quirky lists are the most entertaining imo.
