L5R LCG to Biggest First Printing

By SlackerHacker, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Maybe this came up here already but I was listening to a AGOT podcast that talked a little about L5R. They had a guest who is in the gaming industry and going to be running a big FFG Regionals event out in Seattle.

I forget his name but he said that GAMA he heard that L5R will be by far the biggest first printing of any LCG and that FFG is going to step up support (compared to other LCGs).

All in all I'd say that sounds good.

This is true, but other than "biggest" we don't really know what that means. It could be any number of things. To be fair, all of them are good for the launch of the game.

Imagine if there is a shortage like Destiny.

Yes, it doesn't mean it will sell the most but it is at least good that FFG is going to have product available unless the demand is incredibly higher than we expect.

However, the bigger printing also means slow sale would be more of a problem, should that happen.

I have been involved with LCGs from the start but to me it seems like L5R is getting the most buzz.

Aye it was Steve Horvath stating this at the GAMA talk, biggest print run by a long way . Together with a "Live streamed opening ceremony" at Gencon @_@ Sounds pretty hype.

Oh **** I forgot about the live stream. Get hype!

It should avoid stuff like with release of Arkham Horror: The Card Game and The Dunwhich Legacy deluxe box and its expansion packs. At this point in time, I cannot buy at retail The Dunwhich Legacy which will not reappear until July? August is The Path to Carcosa ? <_< But mistakes happen so no hard feelings FFG/Edge. ;)

Sometimes demand is more than they think and sometimes printing and shipping companies on the other side of the planet don't get their job done.

Oh, I know. And it is not really such a big deal to me (#1stWorldProblems) but I know of some people selling their Arkham LCG because of being forced to wait due to miscalculated printing orders.

Why? Arkham isn't competitive so delays don't really hurt anything. LotR sometimes has significant delays as well and I personally don't always play new Adventure packs right when they come out. I find it more fun to save a couple and play them back to back.

People being people, I guess? The usual "I cannot trust you", "This is not serious",... And if a co-op gets that kind of reaction, imagine what could happen with this competitive game not being printed in enough quantity to satisfy demand (just myself is 3 cores).

I don't think that the game being co-op has anything to do with whether or not somebody wants their game... Why should that matter at all?

I guess I just don't understand that mentality for a co-op game. It's not like new cards are needed to make the experience fresh because the quests we have currently are plenty difficult and there are options to make those harder. With the most recent packs, there are a few deck building options as well.

Now Ashes had terrible early product support, so I could completely understand people dropping out of that.

@Wintersong mentioned that people were selling their Arkham LCG stuff because of delays in getting the new cycle. I guess I just don't understand why people would do that.

Love you on Troll5R btw.

People has the right to spend their well earned money in any way they want, for whatever reasons they may choose. I have everything of Arkham LCG except the deluxe (waiting for reprint) and the PoD (mustbe translated and all that mumbo jumbo of non-USA releases). I feel a bit sad but I have no issues accepting that the companies can make wrong sale estimations and fall short in printing orders. Or that reprints can take time no matter how much the companies may love to sell us more copies. I also know that some people have prior experiences with bad distributions ( Destiny , reprints of certain Eldritch Horror sets,...) and can be wary/tired of such stuff happening. The fact that many preorders where cancelled due to lack of product or that packs got out of stock on release day are also there. For some, more new, was " Well, you are not making me very confident about this product's distribution ".

The Path to Carcosa should have printing runs fixed from what I read but for some people, it is too late. FFG preparing the biggest first release seems, in part, to try to avoid unnecesary grief and potential sales lost. In a competitive game for a now-in-house IP.
