Legend of the Five Ring Tokens

By Xealous, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

You'll never catch me quibbling back and forth on rules minutia. Aesthetics however, that's a different matter.

Wat-er peoples thoughts about the Ring tokens as currently portrayed. Unlikely to be final art I suspect, but given the jaw dropping impact of the design over all the rings seem lacking. Nice that they will be large tokens, but they could perhaps be fire more distinguishable from each other. There is perhaps a reason they are categorized in only two colors?

I can imagine them as actual large rings (with punch out centers) not to be literal rings but more in keeping with the earthsthetic of coins or maybe sword guards. Plus distinctly colored symmetrical design encircling it so as to be instantly recognizable from any angle for both players with bold element and conflict icons. Take two of the current ones of matching color, spin them around randomly, and you may have to double take on which is which, avoidable. ;)

Ofc with multiple core set ill be making these tokens double thickness regairdless to give them a bit more umpf.

I was also surprised by there just being two colors for the rings. I'm assuming there must be a reason for this as otherwise it's a bit weird (to me anyway).

Edit: Post beneath this one has cleared this up!

I bet those Rings are final. Using the traditional symbols since... I do not even remember which edition. Was it Pearl? Each Ring has a blue and red side with same picture. Red side is for Military Conflict and blue side for Political Conflict.

Could have done better with the void pun.

Ah... well that makes a lot more sense!

The Ring tokens are double-sided: red on one side, blue on the other. Red is Military, Blue is Political. You take the token and place it on the target, the relevant way up, to remind you about the current conflict.

I'm pretty sure their debut was on the new card backs, so it was Spirit Wars. Before that they used the kanji.

Thanks. :D

Lol thank you Karasu, ofc the color thing should have been apparent. :/ But that just means there 5 the same color looking similar at a glance.

I guess tradition is where it will stand. Maybe third parties will go nuts with designs.

True, to be honest I simply retconned the others after void stood out to me.

This I forgive. It was a treat looking for them. I liked Wat-er.

Side note (On Topic note): I like the design and color of the rings, but don't have the brain power to think much beyond pretty art at the moment

This Air-ing of grievances has turned out to be delightfully Earth-y. What? I thought we were riding the pun train?
