local tourney - Jan and Jess

By Wiredin, in X-Wing Battle Reports

I've been having a very bad run of games lately. Last 8-10ish casual games I've been schooled pretty bad, once of which only getting ONE shot off the entire game. So I was due for some good games... got second in a local Alberta tournament today flying this list:

Swarm Leader (3)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Green Squadron Pilot (19)
Snap Shot (2)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Juke (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Green Squadron Pilot (19)

Nien Nunb (1)

The last time I won a game it was with this squad. So I figured it was time to bring it back.

Game one: Opponent flying OldFenaroo.

He lined up opposite the left edge of me for the joust. I figured why not.. but only dialed in 2 straights to see what he would do. He countered with 2 straights himself. Manroo on the board edge with Fen and the old man in a line beside the U-Boat. The next turn I went in full speed closing. He once again moved up slowly putting us at range 2 of each other and Fen @ 3. He fired Plasma's at Jess but she shrugged off the attack without a scratch. Fen fired and took a shield while the Old Man fired wide and hit nothing. Jess fluffed her shot into Manroo only taking off 2 shields, while the A-Wings and Jan combined took Old Terroch down to 2 health.

Turn 3, 2 forwards from everyone but Jess on my side. Manroo bumped an A-Wing and Jess, Old Terroch flew in behind my A-wings and sat right beside Jan Ors. Fen flew into range 1 of one of the A-wings... snap shot. no damage. Fen fires at an A-wing and fluffs out. Jan Ors finishes off Old Terroch with a range 1 shot. Manroo fires at Jess and strips her remaining 2 shields. Jess then opened up with 7 dice into Fen... 2 focus, 3 crits, 2 hits. Fen... 1 evade no focus. bye bye Fen.

Turn 4-7 is when the green dice got hot and I couldn't land nothing on Manroo for a while. Eventually Manroo took down Jess. Jan gets the kill shot in the end.

Result: 100-29 win

Game two: Opponent flying Rebels / Poe, Nien Numb. Rex

Started at opposite corners with me on the right side of the board. I opted for a more aggressive opening and went full speed up the side. He casually moved Poe forward the opposite side and Rex/Nein moved laterally towards my squad. The next turn saw more of the same with Poe moving up fast and Numb and Rex closing distance. Turn three, I moved into the asteroids to engage Rex/Nien while Poe started his flanking maneuver. We exchanged fire but ended up with a ton of misses.

Turn 4 I turned in aggressively on Poe, bumped hard, and only one A-wing got a token out of the group. Rex and Nien didn't expect that and ended up way out of arc. Poe takes 2 shields off Jess... my A-wings miss Poe completely, Jan fired on Rex missing...but Jess launched 6 dice at Poe taking off his shields and a hull.

Turn 5 I didn't expect him to move 3 straight, I could have setup a conga line to finish him off but instead broke formation and split up with one A-Wing an Jess chasing Numb, while the other two sat between Rex and Poe. One shield from the A-Wing, one Shield from Jan.

Turn 6, Jess talon rolls right into range 1 of Numb... forgetting he has Snap shot and R3A2. gets double stressed and takes a hit. The Awing takes a snap on Numb after he moves and misses. On the other side of the board the A-wing and Jan line up Rex, but miss terribly while Rex takes a shield off Jan.

Turn 8, Poe is now at full shields, Jess and the A-wings got him in a potential kill box... instead of doing a 3 Talon roll to finish off an A-Wing he instead flies right into the kill box. Poe dies to concentrated fire. Jan dies from Numb.

Turn 10. Jess dies from Numb, the 2 Awings close in on Rex. Rex and the Greens do nothing against each other. Game goes to time.

Loss - 58-44

Game three: opponent flying Imperials / Countdown, Pure Sabbac, Lt. Dormitz, Wampa

This opponent usually wipes me off the board really good, I've flown against him using this list before and got schooled pretty bad. Jousting him would be a bad idea...

He setup on the left side of the board with the Shuttle and then threw his ties down half way up the board. Luckily I setup on the right side and executed the same opening maneuver that I did in the last game. He moved up slowly at first.

Turn 2, I decided to turn in through the asteroids seeing a clear path to his squadron... I figured jousting without his shuttle in the fight probably wouldn't be too bad. He turned his ties in but bumped. I got a shot at wampa at range 3 with one of my A-wings and missed. He fired back and put a Crit through on my lead A-Wing with Wampa's ability.

Turn 3 I slow my engagement to speed 2 and able to take Evades on the A-wings, focus on Jess while Jan bumped. He bumps Jess with Wampa, I could snap shot him...but decided against it. Countdown bumps Wampa. I snapshot him with both of the Awings and strip two hull. Jan is out of range. He fires back at one of the A-wings but can't get through 3 natural evades. He fires with Sabbac and takes shields off Jess. I use the A-Wings to land a hit each on Countdown (thank god for Juke) and took him off the board. I then fire with 6 dice using Jess and erase Pure Sabbac (who rolled nothing but blanks) with 4 crits and 1 hit.

Turn 4, I decided to let Wampa go and started to chase the shuttle. Got off a 6 dice attack with Jess again, but only got 3 hits, combined with the A-Wings I ended up stripping shields while Jan remained out of range.

Turn 5, I K-turned the A-Wings and T-Rolled Jess while Jan turned away. The A-wings tried to peck at the Shuttle but missed. Jess no shot. Jan fires on Wampa and gets a hit.

Turn 6, The A-wings come in fast, Wampa gets snap shot by an A-Wing. Wampa fires back and strips shields off the lead A-Wing. Jan fires at the shuttle and pecks away 2 more damage.

Turn 7, Jess and the A-wings have Wampa in their sights, Jan is out of range. Jess fires 6 dice at wampa... 4 crits and 2 focus. Bye bye Wampa.

Turn 8, the A-Wings finish off the shuttle.

Result: 100-0

Final round: Opponent flying Bossk.Dengar.

This guy is good, one of the best in the city. I was very very worried about this matchup and started sweating bullets. I don't think I breathed the whole game. It took a long time to play out too...

Once again he setup on my left and I moved full speed from the right. The next turn I slowed to 2. Both turns he did 1 forwards. The next turn I anticipated him turning in, I tried to zoom past to attempt a flank but got caught in bump city. Dengar took a shield of Jan, bossk took a shield off an A-wing.

Turn 4 I turned in hard with Jess and the lead A-wing leaving Jan and the other A-Wing in the asteroids. Dengar turned in and Bossk accelerated. Dengar has Jess in arc and got her down to 1 health while the A-Wing snap shoted him and took off a shield.

Turn 5 Dengar lands on a rock and get 2 damage from snap shot while Jan blocks Bossk. Bossk fires on an A-wing with Cluster missiles and strips shields. Jess fires 5 dice at Dengar and gets him down to 2 hull. The next turn, Dengar dies from Snapshot and a shot from Jess. Jess gets killed in return fire.

Turn 6. Jan blocks Bossk again, but is able to fire cluster missiles into an A-Wing errasing him from play. The dance begins with one A-Wing behind Bossk and Jan in front.

Jan ends up blocking him twice more while my A-Wing starts chipping away shields. I forget about the full stop on the YV and get hammered leaving my A-Wing with one hull left. He ends up taking shields off Jan...but not before Jan get s a range 1 2 crit 1 hit shot on him ending the game.

Result: 100 - 50

Overall 2nd place with 3 wins and a 597 MOV. first place was 4 wins with 590.

I think i found my favorite list. :)

Nice and well done!

Good read :)

Congrats! I really like this list, it seems similar to the 'Jess and the Jukes' one from a while back. It's great to see squads that are a little different doing well in tournaments.

I tried a similar one and got murdered in test games. Clearly you fly better! Well done :)
