about the star wars RPG

By goncardoso, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

hello , first i want to say im new at this and im starting the collection.. but i have some questions

- what core book is the most fun - better ? im thinking in getting this one first cause of the jedi/sith but not sure if its the better
- does the GM kit and the acessories worth the money / getting ?

- how will be the future of rpg ? are they keep doing more books / adventures etc.. or this was the final one ?

Which one is better is a matter of subjective opinion. If you like using the Force and lightsabers, this one is for your group. If they prefer Rebels and military missions, Age of Rebellion, and if they like Han, Lando, Boba, and criminals, then Edge of the Empire.

GM kits all come with an adventure, and some GM advice or new rules. Accessories like the adversary cards are very useful, the critical injury/hit cards can be useful but YMMV, and the specialization cards should be avoided (or leave it to your players to buy the ones they want).

The game line is still ongoing, as well as the other two. Right now, Force and Destiny has five supplement books released and 2 more coming, with at least 2 more beyond that. Age of Rebellion has 7 and 1 more coming, with at least 1 more after. Edge has 11 books and an unknown future so far.

They are all parts of a greater whole Each Core book focuses on a different aspect of the Star Wars universe, but they are all compatible as well allowing youto play a fully monty if that's your thing.

EotE focuses on scum and villany, the smugglers, fringers, outlaws, outcasts and mercs.

AoR is the Rebellion vs the empire (though you can play Empire vs. the Rebellion if you know what's up)

FaD is force heavy wanna be Jedi and Jedi (Yes, Sith too).

Just a fair warning: FFG took a functional film inspired conservative view of the force. You can still do what you see in the films (from a certain point of view) but if you're expecting to play a "Jedi" that can do all the force things and flip out... you're not gonna be happy.

EotE and AoR both have a lite force option though, so if you're not all about the jediness but still wanna use mind-bullets, they won't leave ya in the cold.

They each come with the screen, which is useful as a quick reference, and an adventure toned and themed to their corresponding core.

They also each have bonus rules. EotE has Nemesis advancement, AoR has Squads and Squadrons, and FaD has saber construction. Out of the three the Squads and Squadrons is the most useful as it can apply to a lot of different situations across all three lines. Starfighters are flimsy, making squadroning up vital to a starfighter game, and squads allow a Player or NPC to squad up and be tougher as well, good for protecting NPCs or handling PCs with damage heavy builds. Nemesis advancement isn't that important and light saber construction is gone into more depth in Endless vigil making the screen rules a little redundant.

Plenty more coming. EotE is further along, so there will be less new material there, AoR is in the middle, and FaD still has a ways to go. FaD is the final Core book though, so no more cores expected in the foreseeable future.

hum thanks for the answers :) i dont know what to pick since i love all of the 3 parts u guys said above .. probably picking force first since i love jedi / sith the most and edge after since always wanted more dept in smugglers , scum and villany etc.. hum i see.. when u say 7 books u mean adventure books ?

Personally, at first I liked Age and Edge the best, but I slowly have grown to like Force and Destiny more and more. whichever you want to play first is up to your personal preference. Blackbird outlined it pretty well. Some people float to Force and Destiny because of the fact that the movies are focused a bit on force-sensitives, but those are just three characters in a whole **** galaxy. That's what's great about this system- you aren't in anyway limited to canon or the movie's part of the galaxy.

The GM's Kit is definitely worth it, especially for Force and Destiny. The adventure is good, and it also shows Lightsaber Crafting Rules, an integral part of any Force-Sensitive's journey. AoR wone's adventure I don't like. GM's Screen Though- GREAT!

Get the three newest adversary decks. I find them the best.

Plenty more is coming for the rpg. After the career books are done (five to go!) We'll probably get more sourcebooks for ages (Dar Times, After the battle of Endor) and more modules.

The bulk of the supplements are career books, which discuss the careers in the game; some of them have campaign or adventure outlines, but most focus on new rules, player options, and gear. There are currently 2 published adventure modules for AoR (Onslaught at Arda I, Friends Like These), 3 for EotE (Beyond the Rim, The Jewel of Yavin, Mask of the Pirate Queen), and 1 for F&D (Chronicles of the Gatekeeper, with a second, Ghosts of Dathomir, in development).

The location books (Suns of Fortune, Lords of Nal Hutta, Strongholds of Resistance, Nexus of Power) have modular encounters, small adventure fragments, and lots and lots of adventure setting ideas; lore stuff.

Each of the core rulebooks have a short adventure in the back, and each of the GM screens has a similar adventure.

There are also fan-made adventures, and a project to convert adventures from an older Star Wars RPG into this system.

hum i see.. what u recommend ?

If you're starting with Force and Destiny and enjoy the force-related possibilities offered by the game, Nexus of Power is a good supplement, with lots of adventure seeds.

I started with Edge and learned the system so unlike d20. F&D is more advanced into trippy force experiences. Welcome to the galaxy goncardoso

Big question is: What are you the most interested in?

FFG spreads out content in it's books, there's no one must-have book. But if you just gotta have a specific ship, ability, character concept, piece of kit, species option, then say so now and we can point you in a direction.

hum.. i dont know since im new at this game. i wanted some adventure / help since im probably being playing alone or as GM

Force & Destiny and it's special books are def my favorite because I'm interested in the knowledge and complexities of the Force. I also LOVE lightsaber combat. I can recommend a podcast for getting a general overview of the FFG SW system called Dice For Brains. While listening to an entertaining story you get the idea behind the mechanics and see how the system lends itself to story and character development. It's also a great system for new players and GM's because the non-numeric dice allow input from all players during any turn. Force & Destiny is a super forgiving system even if someone mis-interprets or misremembers how a rule works because the story shines above the mechanics. I think you've made a great choice!
