Imperial 7s or 8s?

By Deepspace5, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm considering taking one of the following lists to an all day event:

===========
Imperial 7s
===========

99 points

Maarek Stele (33)
TIE Defender (35), A Score to Settle (0), TIE/x7 (-2)

“Backdraft” (32)
Special Forces TIE (27), Crack Shot (1), Fire-Control System (2), Special Ops Training (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

“Redline” (34)
TIE Punisher (27), Fire-Control System (2), Extra Munitions (2), Plasma Torpedoes (3), Guidance Chips (0)

-=Or=-

===========
Imperial 8s
===========

99 points

“Backdraft” (31)
Special Forces TIE (27), Adaptability (0), Fire-Control System (2), Special Ops Training (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

The Inquisitor (34)
TIE Advanced Prototype (25), Push the Limit (3), Proton Rockets (3), TIE/v1 (1), Autothrusters (2)

Colonel Vessery (34)
TIE Defender (35), Veteran Instincts (1), TIE/x7 (-2)

A Score to Settle seems great for Stele, though I have not tested it out yet. I also just picked up Lightweight Frame, so I am excited to try that on a TIE/sf.

Any thoughts on major weaknesses of either of these lists? Which would you run?

I'd take the 8 mostly for Inquisitor so TLT doesn't just wreck

Valid point. I felt multiple turrets are hard for the first list to deal with. It's funny how I could fit him in instead of Redline, but that throws off the PS! I suppose that's an option too if I just want to run Stele. My initial intention was to run something from Wave 10 ^_^

Running Redline with just one set of munitions is a mistake. FCS basically means that after your two shots, you're just rolling two attack dice with a pretty good chance of hits most turns.

Second lost for sure, Redline at the moment just isn't good enough, especially after he's fired his ordnance.

The saddest part is that unguided rockets might breathe a bit of life into the Tie Punisher, but it doesn't synergize in the slightest with Redline's ability.

Thank you all for the comments. I understand he could be underwhelming, I was just hoping to get some solid shield melting alpha strikes in before Stele and Backdraft drop the crits. The more consistent option is probably dropping him for the Inquisitor at the same price point to get a defense against turrets and more damage in the long run.

Sure it does! Opening round of engagement, he takes a focus. Enemy ships move up (because most likely, SOMETHING is gonna out ps him lol) he shoots the missles, aquires tl's with fcs for torp shots next turn.

Oh I'd not really thought about putting EM and normal torps in him as well as Unguided rockets. Hmmhmmhmm.
