Objectives

By Ywingscum, in Runewars Tactics

So far I have found objectives at times distract me from killing my opponent. I find often I'm best forgetting the objective and just going after attacking opponent.

Has anyone else found this or is it just me?

also terrain has gotten me in trouble a lot too, like going in the terrain is a bad idea sometimes.

I lost a 200 pt game just the other day to objective tokens (flanking) despite brutalizing the enemy.

They can add up quick if you aren't careful.

I think this really depends on the objective. With bounty, for example, you may ignore the objective unit because it's too hard to kill, instead choosing to focus on more cost effective units. In escort if your the interceptor it might be better to setup a roadblock and take out the supporting units, while if you are the escorter you'll want to setup guards and move in formation.

Some lists or unit placements will also determine if the objective is worth going after.

Most recent oops. I got sidetracked with supply run, picking up tokens putting myself out of position .

Yeah... Supply raid is one of those objectives where you really want to think about placement. You want to setup your units to grab the tokens while getting into position.

Yes, I had my undead hero run out and grab two tokens in the raid mission. Then, on the third turn, he ran into the spiked barricade while trying to maneuver back around it to get back to his battle line and killed himself, and dropped the two tokens. Then, a 9 try of spearmen picked up those tokens on the next turn. Running out after those tokens can get you into trouble if you are not careful.

How did your Ardus take 3 wounds in the first two turns?

Shot at by the Daqan hero who had the upgrade of not needing line of sight when making ranged attacks. I had one wound left when I ran into the brutal 3 spikes lol

I've won a god number of my games on Objectives. the battles are often pretty close and the winner tends to be the person who can claim an extra objective or two in my experience.

spikes only deal damage not wounds...so one bump into Ardus should deal 3 damage causing 1 wound, unless you defended then Ardus can pinball around at defense 4 and not take any damage...I would not recommend that though.

I love how this game has objectives, so every game is not just a kill the most enemy units game. I wish x wing had objectives too :( I think it could make some ships more viable than they currently are.

Had a game day before yesterday in which my opponent baited me with the Escort objective into devoting two units of archers to defend the objective point, then he wheeled his cavalry around and refused to engage, basically invalidating 1/3 of my list.

Played me like a fiddle.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who fell for that.

Escort and interceptor. I played escort, my carrion worm was the escort. I should mention we are still just one core. Can't gat a second for another month (life). I ran him down the side away from all the fun and drew Kari, tied her up away from the battle for most of the game. She got my worm but I won the battle, and last two turns hunted Kari down to win the game 59 to 50 :)

Game of the weekend (played 4, went 2 and 2 again)
