From Inconsequential to OP...what changed?

By Pewpewpew BOOM, in X-Wing

Mindlink was only not used much on release because the Jumpmaster had better options, though. If it hadn't been for Deadeye being better to start off with, I think we would have seen Mindlink Scouts being a PITA right from the word go.

I jumped onto Attani mindlink pretty much right when it came out. I ran Manaroo, Guri, Palob and eventually retired the list after going undefeated through 2 local tournaments and several game nights. I think it was about 14-0 at the time I shelved it.

OMG, Rick, is that you?

One could express it pretty caustic also in the following way:

If something does not have at least 3 green dice, tons of repositioning after everyone else and at least an Tie Int dial, its dead on arrival for many Imp fanboys. The newer anti-Fel weapons and the recent crackdown on Palp and X7 though, might have lead to thinking outside the usual box, now more S/Fs showing up.

This said, I probably should now start the clock to count seconds to the first whiny post about how the nerfs robbed the Empire of all viability ;)

You would have to stop that clock several weeks ago.

In this thread, of course. Elsewhere we had plenty, difficult to miss.

...The same thing happened with the K wing, and now it is a stable ship in the meta.

This is another example (perhaps a better one). The K was released as I learned the game. It was oft dismissed at the time.

I guess the boost to cluster bombs and Sabine crew were enough to push Miranda and the PS 2 version from trash to treasure.

When there is such a small margin from one to the other, is that an indication that there is better balance to the game than one might assume while reading these boards?

What we need to learn... FFG release ship builds over two waves. K-Wing/Sabine, YV/Party Crew, Attani/Fenn, Quickdraw/LWF etc. It seems to happen a lot.

"This soup is too cold", said Goldilocks, "and this soup is too hot!"

If there's no third soup at just the right temperature then Goldilocks starves to death in the three bear's cottage, or staggers out into the woods delusional from thirst and hunger then dies a painful death eating toxic berries as she forages for survival.

Rey/Expertise, as well. And Rage/Recruit.

Haha! No. But I think I like how this "Rick" thinks.

There is a pattern on this board: release comes out, collective "wisdom" declares it DOA. Some creative person figures out that actually with the right combination of upgrades, X upgrade works and places well at major tournament. Then the collective "wisdom" decides that X is now "viable" and in a fit of uncreative group think, they ape the successful build to the exclusion of all others and you get tournaments with a very high incidence of identical lists. Everyone moans that X is broken.

Repeat the cycle every few months.

Welcome to X Wing miniatures game every card and miniatures game with a tournament component ever.

I don't exactly agree with the first paragraph, but this is hardly a situation unique to X-wing.

He caught on to mindlink right away and started tearing things up. I could never beat any of his mindlink lists. He showed me how blocking was practically useless and stress very weak against it. So now 15 months later I am not surprised by the hate mindlink gets.
