Where I can discuss some other games or just write some things that are not connected with a particular game? Guys, pls add one section of the forum for "off-topic"!
Why there is no "Other" section in this forum?
I wouldn't say "Off-topic", because that caries the meaning of "Anything you want that isn't offensive to people".
We still need to limit ourselves to games here.
A "General" forum would be nice though.
I'd particularly like to see some kind of "Other" forum for legacy games. My FFG library includes Midnight , Blue Planet (which has reverted back to the original licensor, I know, but it would still be nice to see some love for it around here), several of the "Horizon" supplements for d20, Fireborn and Senator , none of which I see any acknowledgment for on the new site, unless I missed it--no way to add them to my library, no forums for them, no listing whatsoever.
For the d20 games, I realize that d20 dies at the end of the year because of 4E and That Other Gaming Company (I kid, I like TOGC just fine ), but I hadn't realized that the end of the d20 license meant that companies had to flush old games down the nearest Memory Hole on top of pulping them.
(And Fireborn , as far as I know, was wholly in-house for FFG and used its own system, so not sure what the issue would be, there. I never have had a chance to run it, but I still might some time, and would at least like to have the bragging rights of including it in my profile, as cheezy as that might seem.)
The seeming absence of Midnight around here is especially puzzling. Alright, it's a d20 product and is hit hard by the d20 licensing issues, but it was also one of FFG's premium lines, and of course there was, um, you know, that movie adaptation they did --it would still seem to be valuable intellectual property for FFG: there could easily be a CCG or series of wargames in the franchise even if re-developing the RPG for 4E or an in-house system is daunting or impractical or justnotgonnahappen. At the very least, one might imagine a placeholder page with a link to www.midnight-chronicles.com, which appears to be the current page for the movie, whatever status the movie happens to be in at the moment.
The gaming industry is rough, and I'm happy that FFG seems to be doing reasonably well at a tough time. I want to be clear that (1) I'm grateful FFG is still in the fight and turning out stellar games and (2) I really do have realistic expectations--if business dictates Midnight goes on to the Great Gaming Table In The Sky, I prefer that to one of my favorite companies joining Avalon Hill, TSR, Supremacy Games, GDW, GOO and other makers of A-list games in Games Heaven. So, if anybody from the main office happens to read this thread and this comment: (3) thank you, FFG, and keep up the solid work.
But...
...would a "miscellaneous" forum be too much to ask? And maybe even a "museum" page so that owners of some of those old, classic FFG games can have an icon in their profile that says, "Hey, you kids, you're too young to remember it, but we older gamers used to play...."
(Oh, and maybe, for Christmas, some kind of announcement about Midnight ? Even if it's just to say, "We're sorry, we had a great game and it was awesome while it lasted, but the new licensing restrictions imposed on us and effective at the end of the year mean that we must say goodbye." As terrible as a farewell would be, the uncertainty right now is a little worse.)
Thank you again.
I came here looking for Magdar stuff - only to find there is no support for your games.
Silver line stuff _ I have quicksand, wreckage, Atlanteon and more - yet no support.
I am guessing these games are sold out, so no more love for them from you guys?
I'm also a Midnight GM, its one of my favorite settings. I'm just wondering if the license has been flogged off to some other company or just abandoned?
I wish I could remember where I saw it, but I think I saw somewhere that Midnight hasn't been cancelled, just put on hold for the time being. (Or I could be wrong)
As for the new d20 licensing, the only reason you have to stop selling / producing the old stuff is if you sign the new license and want to produce new stuff. Unfortunately the only thing you can do is add to the current stuff. You can't use the basics of the system and completely redo all of the classes / races, etc.
For that matter, the old board game stuff -- Battlemist, Diskwars, etc -- could use an "older Fantasy Flight games" forum, too.
I agree, a 'general' board would be pretty sweet.
