Hello board! First time posting here, mostly I stick to the RPG section. I'm new to customizing and painting anything from the X-Wing line, mostly I work on Gundam model kits, but lately, I've been itching to work with starships. I decided to start big since I'm used to larger scale projects, and after finding a cheap one on Ebay, I decided to start with an Imperial Raider

I love the design of the ship, it may be my favorite Imperial, but certainly from the current lineup. At the same time, I had to mess around with it. As a ship to be used in the rpg, I decided to go with the idea of "what if the characters stole it, then their organization started an overhaul?"

So, here's the progress thus far. I'd have primed it, but its been too rainy to go outside and spray paint this weekend.

I have boxes of gundam model kit bits, so much of what I use comes from there.

Step 2, fun with plasticard. I don't have the measurements of thickness for the cards, but I took my second to lowest thickness to use as a base, and layered it with a pair of strips of my thinnest. I'm going to try some scribing of panel lines in a final layer before priming.

Did some panel scribing, priming, and rescribing of the lines. I'm not sure if I should build up some sections in more plasticard or not and the lines are rather shallow. I'd love some advice there as I'm wondering if I should have saved the panel lines for after the half ring was painted up and then just have gone for a wash.

This is looking Interesting.

WIP 5 and 5a(lternate view)

Threw some paint on it, the masking tape is still on in places so it looks a lot messier than it really is. The gold works much better than the yellow (that I couldn't get right) was, so I'll stick with it and it works for the campaign. I'm still not sure what the half ring will be, I'm considering gun metal, or maybe a mix of gun metal and the gold in some kind of pattern. The markings on it are hand carved but I made them as symmetrical as I could. The underbelly is a dark gunmetal and I'm not sure how much time I'll spend on detailing it beyond some simple shading/washes. I'll get pics of that before I go too far with it.

Are you making an ugly? I love those things!

Hmmm... are you going to magnetize the wings of both ships? if that happens, you can make 'em ugly when you feel like slumming, and switch them back when you're trying to be presentable!

Yep! But mostly so they're movable, the Z95 wings I'll likely use in conjunction with something else. I have a Kilkraz and an A wing I'm considering messing with. I'll be giving the same treatment to another Z95 too, in prep for the Tie Aggressor in the next wave.

I actually forgot about the Calnus, I really liked that ship. You're right, and I actually think I have parts I could work on to get the look of those side binders. Shields from certain Gundam units/lines make for great starship part potential.

The starfighter had to be put on hold as I found I was one magnet short of completing construction so I'm waiting on those.

But I got most of the construction done on the Imperial Raider. The ship's construction is basically done unless I add some extra layers to the top ring to make it more three-dimensional. I still need to clean up the paint, touch ups, edging, the bridge window and engines. But I'm liking it so far.

Front view of the ship, you can better see here how I attached the wings to the solar sails. At first, it was just going to be glue and maybe a pin, then while working on another project I realized I had a lot of magnets available that were a good size for this. So now the wings, as well as the thrusters, are poseable and the whole assembly can come off if I need it too, or decide I want to change it out for another option down the line. The new guns can also rotate.

Finished my first custom starfighter for X-Wing!

Finished this little guy first and I'm happy with the outcome. Everything works the way I want it to, with the solar sails rotating independently thanks to the magnets used. I think the actual design might need some tweaking, but that just means I can have more fun later and provide an MK 2

The backdrop is an image I found through google and was displayed on my tablet while I took a picture with my phone. I'd edit out the base if I could but I don't have the software for that anymore.

I waver between working on the paint some more or leaving it as is for a more worn look.

I just liked the reflection in that one.

Next I'll be focusing on my raider custom, and what one friend will undoubtedly call the Max/Mirira combo of Star Wars.

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome and kind words This is probably one of the nicest communities of modders and painters I've joined yet.

Custom painted T70 x-wings for the X-Wing miniatures game. Inspired by the pilots "Red Ace" and "Blue Ace" but my Macross loving bud looked at them and decided Protoculture had gotten all the way to a galaxy far far away. Planning on using a magnetic ball bearing for the bases, but I'm waiting to have more ships to do that with first, so do pardon the white stems. The red one is easily my favorite, I like the blue, but it's funny how you don't notice the imperfections until the picture is taken. :/ I'll get back to them at some point, but I feel like moving on for now.

The Raider is nearly done too, just some touch ups to the paint now
