How many waves are left before FFG runs out of ideas?

I don't mind a Falcon with an illicit slot, but it should be in the Scum faction. Han was a smuggler after all.

simillarly I'd love the Firespray to appear in the rebels as part of an Azameen family set, it could bring out a Firespray fix at the same time and that would be full of win.

I like limiting things to some factions to an extent, but there are. Also crews and pilots out there who've fought for two or three factions and it'd be nice to soread the love a bit. Sabine crew for example could legitimately be part of all three factions, and a Rebel Captive could go to Scum - didn't Fett have Han for a little while after all?

I'd agree with the idea you have. I've got no problem with multi faction ships/pilots/crew... but give them all different cards. Let each faction have some character, play style, abilities, etc that's theirs and no one else's

We have this now...

But with each release you can see tools in one factions tool box are starting to get copied into others.

Its a bad trend, and I hope it stops soon

So Apparently Star Trek Attack Wing is on Wave 30 before they have to repaint ships.

http://www.startrek.com/article/reliant-repaint-for-attack-wave-30

Star Trek has also had a much larger source material to draw from. 29 seasons of television plus 10 movies, not including the reboot of the TOS in the form of the new movies (another 3). I'm sure star wars will get there with Disney at the helm, but for the moment that is a consideration.

Does that mean X-Wing the Second Edition? Maybe, maybe not. But they're going to have to come up with something clever to keep the older ships feeling like they have a place while not ostracizing the people who don't want to have to buy a fourth or fifth X-Wing.

Simple - re-releases with new dials and include 1-2 extra dials for the ships you bought the first time. New, balanced abilities where some of the older ships that "should have had" that move or ability and only didn't because the design didn't exist yet be added to iconic ships like the xwing, tie interceptor, bwing, firespray, etc.

That way new players can just go to the new one and not back buy, and old players can easily use their old model with the new dial.

Or optionally sell just the new dials in a kit by faction.

Plenty of options without 2.0

I remember when this happened for M:TG. Suddenly healing spells were showing up in Blue, and various other abilities that used to be color specific were being given to non-traditional colors (albeit at a higher casting cost). It really felt like a lame dilution of the game.

If they want to allow cross faction access, Marinealver's "hiring of mercs" idea is a good one, or releasing factionless ships that (technically) don't dilute the identity of the main factions would keep the factions "pure."

Those are a huge number of changes to basic elements of the game. To not call it 2.0 or Revised would be a disservice to old and new players alike.

Why is everyone afraid of the appellation 2.0?? I does not mean that everything is "backwards incompatible." Especially the models. Hey, there's an idea:

I'm also a little surprised that Star Trek has 30 waves where X-wing only has 10 (11 coming up). Well okay lets count movie Tie-ins and special releases as separate waves. Even including Wave 11, C-roc, the inevitable movie TIE in for Ep 8, and heck why not throw in Wave 12 that would only be 23 releases compared to Attack Wing 30, and if I'm not mistaken Attack Wing came out after X-wing.

You are missing the tournament prizes (one a month for almost 4 years) and 20 'blind booster' ships, plus their own 'epic' size DS9 and Borg Cube.

I wasn't counting Star Trek, they got 30 waves, I was counting all the X-wing releases which was 19 (23 if I included Wave 11, Wave 12, Movie TIE in for Wave 12, and the C-Roc).

FFG could always pull more ships from some of the old video games, look at X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance. There are a bunch of ships they could pull from them, *cough XG-1 StarWing Assault Gunboat cough*. Of course there is still a few ships from Star Wars Galaxies they could use, both fighters and capital scale ships.

If it allows the old stuff in, that's fine.

My problem with 2.0 is when mechanics or design change in such a way that old material is simply impossible to bring into it. I'm not sure how a few moves on a dial requires a reboot or is a significant change, but call it what you want. As long as the old material is considered legal for use I'm ok with it. My fear of a 2.0 is basically that - a lack of compatibility with my current investment with the game.

When we get the young Han/Lando movie tie in, hopefully we'll get a scum falcon. As I understand it, they were a coupla nerf-herders back then. Darned if I won't buy a 3rd falcon for that.

I expect a few more earnest waves and then either dialing it back to movie tie-ins, or going whole hog into a 2nd edition. I'd be ok with either. The first is better for my wallet, the second would hopefully find ways to improve underused stuff.

A little confusing, we already have a Scum Faction? Are you talking about Scum Lando and Scum Han?

I wouldn't mind Scum Lando but we already got 2 Han Solos. Yes I know they are both Rebel but again do we need a 3rd Han pilot? Now maybe a Scum only Han Solo <crew> upgrade cards sure I would be up for that.

Given that Disney are going to be releasing a Star Wars movie a year from now until the heat death of the universe, I don't think running out of ships will be the problem.

Surely they just blow up the planet / universe, remake it with a simplified rules set, and make the models a bit bigger so you have to rebuy them all?

Yeah. I said scum "Falcon", not scum "faction". They both had the falcon a long time before they had anything to do with the rebels. If ever they put the YT1300 in scum, it'll be when that movie drops.

EDIT: Also we have 3 Han Solos. You just never see crew Han outside of epic.

Minus 2?

Ideas are like nerf threads; it's very hard to run out of them!

I actually want re-packs, and older ships to appear in the games like Imperial Veterans and Aces over and over. I think the current ships + a few new waves from the movies and rebels tie ins will have enough ship on each side to fill each role. Giving us new pilots, EPT-s, upgrade cards, fixes and so on, should be enough.

Ah, my bad. But again we do have 3 Falcons, well to be honest we have 7 falcons. I would like to see more YT-1300 (2164) and not the super YT-1300. (3185)

But yeah I know we have 3 Han Solo personas, but as I said I don't think we need 3 Han Solo pilots. Now 4 Han Solo's are fine. 2 pilots, and 2 upgrade cards (one Rebels one Scum). That seems alright for me.

We could use a Scum Lando though, and yes giving it the 3158 stats should be okay. But the rest of the pilots should get the 2164.

I think in the not too distant future we get something akin to a story mode tournament series. Play in the tournaments to drive a global story line campaign with people who register and win getting achievement prizes for their faction. I have seen more stores toying with this and I think FFG would be wise to get on board. It really opens up the game when the list building isn't just for best at 100-6. As the article today said, the mission modes really change up the list building.

Check out what Shuttle Tyderium podcast is doing at GenCon then. It looks pretty cool.
