snap shot and accuracy corrector

By Slade, in X-Wing Rules Questions

From what I understood snap shot activates if an enemy ship finished executing a maneuver, i.e. before any action is taken (barrel rolls, boosts, focus etc.)

If hit the defender can therfore not use focus tokens to modify his defence dies as it doesn't have a focus token once snap shot activates, right?

I also understood that snap shot doesn't allow for die modification but changing or adding a die is allowed. I wondering if a ship with snap shot can use accuracy corrector to basically replace the dies rolled with 2 hit results?

Thx. for the help/advice.

The defender won't get to his perform action step you're right. But if he has a focus token already (Mindlink, Advanced Sensors, Fleet Officer etc) or any other defensive mods he can use them as normal.

Adding the hit results IS dice modification. So you can use the first half of AC to cancel everything but you can't then add the two hits.

Actually, using the precedent set by Omega Leader's ability, I don't think you can even play the effect because modifications aren't allowed.

Nope. The cancellation isn't a cost for the addition, they're separate effects.

In the Rules Reference, read "Modifying Dice" on page13 , and "Attack" starting on page 4. The attack timing chart in the FAQ is also helpful.

Adding a die result and rolling additional dice are not the same thing, and happen during different steps in the attack. Rolling additional/fewer attack dice is part of step 2; altering the number of possible outcomes, but not modifying the results. Adding a hit result is part of step 3, and is explicitly defined under "Modifying Dice" in the rules.

Cancelling a result is not dice modification, which is the reason you can use the first half of Accuracy Corrector. It's a useful distinction if you want to miss on purpose.

So, in theory, you could have something like Cassian with Snap Shot, Accuracy Corrector and Gunner. Use AC to "miss on purpose," as you put it, to trigger Gunner while they're in range one?

You can't Gunner after missing Snap Shot, because after Snap Shot you can't attack again in the same phase. Here's a janky Cassian with Accuracy Corrector:

Cassian Andor (40) - U-Wing
Veteran Instincts (1), Accuracy Corrector (3), Flechette Torpedoes (2), Gunner (5), Captain Rex (2), Pivot Wing (0)

Target Lock for an action, fire Flechette, miss on purpose, target is stressed, you get a focus for your primary with Gunner. There are better ways to build it, but this one demonstrates the concept.

Ah. Always forget that. I was trying to think of a reason why you would want to miss Snap Shot on purpose. For rebels, Rex is the only thing I can see.

I don't understand how that's relevant. The OL FAQ entry makes it clear that you simply cannot play abilities that contain dice modifications.

Adding or subtracting dice (i.e. Jan Ors) and canceling die results (i.e. Crack Shot) do not count as modifying dice. However, added die results (C-3P0, Advanced Targeting Computer, Accuracy Corrector, etc.) do count as modifying dice and cannot be used .

No, it states that added die results may not be used. Cancelling = bueno, adding = no bueno. You MAY add dice results when using Accuracy Correcter, but it isn't required.

Ahh, yes. that makes sense.

With a U-Wing (23), you could do AC (3), Baze (3), & HC (4) to purposely strip focus from 2 separate enemies :D

At 33 points you have an okay-costed way to annoy your opponents, and get in some nice shots.
