I'm worried the game doesn't have enough factions at launch...

By Wispur, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I'll be getting everything as well. I just won't be jumping into it until June. As I wouldn't get to touch the game until then anyway due to being away from home. On the plus side that means I can bulk buy with any expansions out then maximising my discount.

Im not sure the two faction thing is really going to turn off to many people. The way I see it is you're either excited about the game or you're not. Personally im not really into either of the starter factions but Im super excited about the game so I bought two starters to wet my appetite.

Also I think some of the people claiming to understand the miniature market really don't. I have played many of the bigger miniature games out there (WHF, 40K, Warmachine) and almost every person I know that plays those games consistently owns more then one faction in those games. Sure they usually have their main faction but they also dabble in a few others. So I think the people who are really interested in the game will mess around with one of the two starter armies until one of the factions they really want to play comes out.

I think there's a lot of game value in just the core set and I'd recommend that anyone that was interested in the game pick one up even if they are waiting on one of the other factions.

Get some games under your belt and see if you like the game. Assuming that the game takes off you should be able to sell off the human and undead models when the faction that you are waiting for drops. Even if you sell the units at $5 a tray you'll end up getting your "essentials" for less than the cost of an essentials set.

I don't know. If you're a company and have the capacity to produce 2 units worth of products every six months, do you release 2, and then release 2 more six months later, or do you produce two units and hold on to them for six months waiting for the next two units to come out? There isn't a straight forward answer and there could be many reasons for doing one versus the other, but it's pretty obvious from a business standpoint why you would sell what you produce as you produce it.

To the people who are already rage quitting and never going to play because their elves aren't out yet: are you people frickin serious? You won't ever play the game because you needed your models six months earlier? Give me break. You're not going to find any sympathy from me.

Daqan for now, but hoping for orcs and dark elves eventually

I will be getting all of every faction ?

That would be deep elves. Not a whole lot in the lore about them but I'm hopeful too!

Im currently only collecting undead having split a couple of boxes with a friend, but depending on how hard/time consuming painting becomes I may collect the other factions. I feel like with this game one faction might be a bit too narrow. Though I wouldn't do this out of balance/power levels, but just to be able to switch armies when I tire of playing one or the other.

I imagine that there will be more cards like Kari that encourage you to dip into other factions.

Probably. From the hero's we know the army building side for all of them have some army building or deployment mechanic. I assume his trend will continue and that most hero's will be something that defines your army.

I do wonder how many factions this game will eventually release. Is there a possibility minor factions that can be teamed up with certain factions? Some mentioned deep elves that don't have much lore. Just made me curious

deep elves live underground and sell their services as assassins and mercenaries. They typically spend their time fighting adventurers. I bet we'll see them as mercs for use by elves and undead.

When it comes to selling plastic crack, FFG knows what they are doing. This is a long game for them and getting people to pick up two factions they would otherwise pass on is one of their brilliant ways to get people to buy everything.

FFG games are not for the poor or those of us down to only one kidney now.

Let them take their time. I prefer a game with few but well designed factions and a good flow of miniatures rather than a lot of incomplete factions.

I do agree, also if you have a group of friends sometimes people don't like to double up on a faction someone else has. I know I won't be able to get some of my wargaming friends interested until at least the Elves and Uthuk are out.

Yep, Right now it's feeling like the releases are spaced out in such a way that I will probably just collect everything.

Me too!! And with the way it is being released, after the core sets, it shouldn't be too difficult to paint!!

Yes, this is an issue for us as well. Players in my group are very individualistic. If there is a way to avoid mirror matches in a game, we take any steps needed. For example in Bolt Action everyone specifically took different countries. We always split box sets like with Armada. In the case of Runewars we have currently 3 players with more coming online, but as of now only 2 of us have "an army" and until Elves and Uthuk come out these guys will not play Runewars.

Suffice to say I don't think anyone could expect more than 3 armies at release, even that was kind of a surprise, I figured it would be a while before we got a 3rd army. This has been the case for every miniatures game ever released, even Warhammer.

Really hoping the Uthuk get spoiled today. Can't wait to see their sculpts.

I stopped into my LGS on the weekend just to see how things were going with RuneWars, they've sold 2 copies.. and both were to the same person lol.

They've had a number of people stop in like myself who say they are waiting for the next factions, and then a few more that WANT to play the core but are waiting to see how the game pans out.. so far, not so good around here.

I hope so, too, but I am doubtful since we just got a news article on Elves on Friday.

Yeah, my store says it looks like nobody has even noticed this game on the shelves. As I said before, I spent my tax returns wildly on X-wing before I realized just how cool this game is, so I am in the process of saving up to buy a core. Once I get it, I'll do some demos in my store.

As an aside, my store is 30 minutes away, and there is another store that's 45 minutes away that already seems to have a growing community, so it might make more sense to drive the extra 15 minutes, but I think I should try to start something at my store first, to try to help their sales and get the community off the ground. And I guess my post doesn't really have to do with the number of factions, but when I read that there are people in your area waiting to see how the game goes, it reminded me of my area.

I have a similar impression about my own area. I think it's kind of a chicken and egg problem. People want to see it on the tables before buying but its not hitting the tables until people start buying in.

After I get in a few more games I might try to arrange to have 3-4 core sets available and schedule a couple of demo nights with learning games setup an ready to go. I just need to get a few core sets to be able to do so.

That's so different from my flgs. They sold out of their copies (11?) In a week. I might have to break down and get a starter when they restock, whilst waiting for my demon loving slaughtering horde.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there is an upgrade with the Uthuk that allow them to bring in some undead units.

If you can resist the temptation to paint your minis they'll probably have a readonable resale value when your preferred factipn drops.

4 copies sold in my FLGS (Spain). Today I want to run some demos with my own copy. People is interested but they want to join only when the game is popular.
