THE FAQ IS HERE

When all the players in the region took it as you can spend all four token to cancel four dice, and now you can only use one token to cancel one dice its a nerf

An entire region not knowing the rules is not a Nerf. I recently found out everyone I've every player with has put the set up markers in the wrong place.

How "while" works is right there on page 5 of the rules reference guide under "Effect Use and Timing":

Quote

A “while” effect can be resolved during the specified event and cannot occur again during that instance of the event.

And how "after" works is right there in the same spot, and yet virtually everybody in that IO thread had been doing it wrong.

I'm just saying, it doesn't make everybody in your area stupid or something for having missed a moderately subtle wording issue like that. If it happens enough (and apparently, it did), might as well throw in a line in the FAQ addressing it.

Of course, apparently throwing a line in the FAQ takes a week per line, so maybe it's my perspective that needs adjusting...

What is this IO issue? Maybe I'm one of the lost? Is it just you have to do it before modifying dice?

Yeah, that. It was a while ago. Sorry, I should've linked it when I referenced it, but I'm on my phone and way too lazy for that.

Completely understand

Oh I don't mean to imply that everyone who did it wrong is stupid, but I don't understand why the response should be anything but "oh, huh, guess we've been doing it wrong and should do it right from here on out." Instead I've been seeing a few incidences of "how dare FFG nerf the way we've been doing it, even if it was wrong!" which confuses me.

For posterity.

Intel officer has 2 trigger conditions. While attacking and after you roll must be true for this card to work. Rules state cards can't be triggered more than once per instance. In the case of multiple after instances you still can't do it as the while trigger has been played on already that attack. That's how I see it. Both or nothing must be true

Are you talking about the once-per-attack limitation of the "while" terminology? If so, it's kind of redundant in the particular case of IO: it's an exhaust, so you can only use it once per round anyway.

The point of the linked discussion is that IO must be used prior to using any dice modification effects (specifically, rerolls that you might want to know the outcome of before declaring the IO's target or use).

Since I would be paying tracked postage from the UK to US I would want a pre release hammerhead expansion kit please.

Are you taking my half arsed comment seriously :)

It happens though. If somebody tells me I can rolls my dice, leading shots, and then declare my IO, I might not think about it too critically until somebody points out a year and a half later that we're all doing it wrong...

And if it's frequently misinterpreted somewhere, seems to me like reasonable subject matter to clarify in an FAQ. Just because the right interpretation got socialized most places doesn't necessarily mean it's clear to everybody.

FAQs aren't just for otherwise-inscrutable interactions like Instigator + everything else.

I was the cause of a misunderstanding of JJ in my area. Not sure why I read damage card but I did. At least it didn't take 500 days to fix it. The guy who pointed to me before we started our league match was cool. He eventually paid it with a 10-1 so he maybe was stupid too but undoubtedly cool.:D

On the other hand an entire area playing something wrong could not be stupid but not sure if I would say the same about being corrected and call it nerf... several times.<_<

Yeah, that's fair. I'll own it: I somehow misread a whole chunk of that sub-conversation, probably due to skimming pieces of the thread. So, take my commentary with a grain of salt. :)

So this isn't really FAQ related. But what if they fixed ramming by making it so to do damage you have to have equal or less max hull value?

FAQ fixed Hyperlane Raid.

If the 2nd player turtles the 1st player can turtle too.

Win 1st player.

Neat.

I cannot like this enough.

Wtf happened to Fire Control Teams?? That was unnecessary and bizarre. What is its purpose, and is it just APTs that can't combine? Fecked if I know...

Ouch... My soul... I was using IO wrong as well but I have to agree it is before modification... That could hurt my Murder Boats...

No worries man, I was too. It seems so obvious now upon reading it, but that's groupthink for you.
