Netrunner base game any good?

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I'm nosing around for two player games. Looking into netrunner a bit.

What's the thoughts on basic netrunner? I need something that's NOT star wars associated. Any other suggestions?

Yes, the basic netrunner game is very good. Although the later sets apparently have some OP stuff, the core is pretty well balanced and the game has a fascinating asymmetric game play. The games only flaw really is that that there is no way to do more than 2 players, but if you are explicitly looking for a 2 player game that isn't really a problem.

Thankyou pardner

It is a pretty good introduction to the game. I would probably recommend the upcoming campaign expansion for it as well, to sort of flesh out the full game.

I agree about the utility and fun in the core set alone. I bought it wanting to scratch a Neuromancer-like itch and it does that well. I've only played about half a dozen games using the core set and yet to exhaust the options in there. I like the asymmetry and feel.

If you're looking for casual infrequent play then it definitely fits that bill. To add to that the new legacy/campaign expansion that is about to be released looks like a lot of fun.

If you want a tournament play experience then run away unless you're prepared to spend a fortune buying lots of expansions.

As for other good two player game suggestions are you looking for something competive or co-op?

Even without the campaign, the tourny legal cards are designed to work with just the core set, as that is what you use for the campaign.

Either or regarding the coop/competitive.
