Base Sizes

By Teloch, in Star Wars: Armada

So I've been thinking, Armada has restricted itself by limiting base sizes to small medium and large. I think there should be five, XS, S, M, L, XL.

Ships like the corvette and raider should be considered XS while the ISD should be pushed upto XL.

I dont actually expect anything to change, just curious to see other peoples thoughts.

No. There should be 1600 sizes. From 1m to 1600m....

But when the executor comes out, it will become a little bit strange. When there are suddenly 17400 new sizes. ;)

Nah, if you hope to include SSDs and the Resurgence, XL = SSD, L = Resurgence, M = ISD, HMC80, LMC80, S = VSD, AFMII, Interdictor, XS = CR-90, Neb-B, Pelta, GSD, MC30c (XXL) GR-75, Imperial Carriers.

TBH though, I think the current sizes are OK. Adding bigger things would be tough, but then the only other larger thing to add that's cannon to this (GCW) era is the SSD, which would require a far larger size then XL. Though then again, the size of the base doesn't matter too much, the point cost/ability ratio and Coolness of Model factor hold more weight for me.

I dont think I clarified my point very well sorry, what I meant was that the current ISD size should be considered XL, and we should get more sizes inbetween, however the Corvette and Raider should go down a size to a newer smaller size to better reflect their actual size on the battlefield. Hell if you line 2 corvettes up end to end they are longer than an ISD.

But yea I admit I buy this game to look at the models on my shelf and make "pew pew" noises.

Finally, someone who takes Armada seriously enough.

Well we have 3 sizes and 2 categories. We just didn't get flotillas of other sizes yet :D

I actually really dislike the armada bases. When the game was announced I was expecting a cr90 to be about the size of an a-wing in x-wing, about an inch long. But it seems like they couldn't do ships that small in armada because the bases are so frikin' huge and bulky.

Well then squadrons would look a little silly next to an inch long corvette. Would I be okay with that? Absolutely, but they went the route they went.

The only scale that is the most off to me probably is the ISD. It would still be small no matter what but I feel as if it were just a third its length longer then it is now it would look better next to the other ships. I think that's telling actually.

If the ISD was the largest ship they were planning on having in the game you would think they would've made it much bigger maybe even epic scale. However I think its fairly clear they're open to bigger ships (namely SSDs, the only ships bigger then an ISD during Wave II's design phase) down the road.

If the cr90 had been 1" long the current size of the ISD would have been pretty close to in scale with it, the docking bay on it isn't much smaller than an inch. If they had done that then everything in between the two could have been scaled to match and we'd have had a much less extreme "sliding scale" for the ships. Squadron markers were never going to look right, we were always going to have to accept oversized figures representing a dozen actual fighters, or just cardboard tokens, for squadrons.

The scale issue in Armada doesn't bother me as much as having to get my Star Wars fix from playing X-wing would, so base sizes/scales are not an issue IMO. They do a good enough job.

I think the currently sliding scale works just fine. The critical test is always "I am immersed?" and with Armada I've found myself far more immersed than in games of X-Wing where everything is to scale. When there's a few critical decisions to make and the soundtrack is playing in the background, there's nothing like the heart-pumping nervousness of trying to figure out your next move...
