Done that VCX-100 illumination some time ago, but did not posted it here.
Needs a good paintjob sometime...

Nice cargo door. Could you fit a couple of Blurrgs in there?
There's space for a whole flock! ![]()

You Scruffy Blurrg hearder!
Bloody Marvelous ![]()
Superb execution of all the things you have done to the VCX.
Big Well Done.
As someone who did this awhile ago myself - how the heck did you manage to salvage those lower engine diffusers? My strategy for clearing out the diffuser has always been come from the back with a dremel until you start breaking through, and then a hobby knive to clean up all the edges... Except that didn't really work on the VCX. The top ones came off, but were intact, so I just glued them back in place, and the bottom ones just said "no" and I couldn't do much about it. I want to get my second Ghost lit up as well, but I've been holding off thinking I need to cast the diffusers beforehand, but if you have another strategy, then I'm all ears!

Ditto. Lighting the Ghost is on my to-do list as well, although TBH I plan to do my CR-90 first.
Unless they release another Imperial huge ship, (or those Russian guys crank out an actual hollow Interdictor model) in which case it takes priority.
You are right, the lower engines are quite difficult to preserve. Actually i tried to drill the hole from the inner side - the ship's body faceing side - of the component. I choose a long driller with 6 Millimeters diameter. That worked quite okay for the first of the two lower engines, but with the second in lost the diffuser. So i decided to rebuild the diffusers for both engines to have a matching look. The diffusers are cut out of a piece of plastic and shaped with the dremel. They are painted dark gray and then fitted into the engine's vent. Hot glue filled in from the other side fixed the plastic pease in place and works as light diffusor for the engines LEDs.
From my practical experience modifying X Wing Models is like 40% planing how to do and 60% change plans to rescue what you wrecked while following your plans. It starts with the fact that you never know how the modell is constructed inwardly. ![]()
Two hints:
1. ALWAYS make a lot pictures or even a video of your model with your smartphone BEFORE start to modify. So you can see how it should have looked... ![]()
2. If you are good with soldering ALWAYS prefere to use (much smaller) SMD LEDs.
