So very happy a Hantei is back on the throne!

By lumia2, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

I was worried about L5R coming to FFG. What was going to happen with the card game, the rpg, and all the rest?

Then I saw this article. Good stuff, good art, they seem to have understood what this is all about. And then, I saw something fantastic:

While the Crane have been laid low, the Scorpion Clan has ascended to the height of glory. The clan serves Emperor Hantei XXXVIII well: Bayushi Shoju as a trusted friend and his impossibly beautiful wife Kachiko, as Imperial Advisor. No word is whispered in the Imperial Capital that escapes the Scorpion Clan’s ears, and no plot is hatched that evades the notice of its agents.

This is fantastic. They're going back to the roots of the game, and building from there. Could not be more happy with this!

Well we know how good a "friend" Shoju is.

In a different life, maybe he wasn't. We literally know nothing about what's coming up.

Shoju was a dear friend to the Hantei. He was a very dutiful samurai and did what he thought was correct in saving the Empire (though he ended up being an agent of the prophecy).

I actually hope they do this. I really hope we all are waiting for Shoju to stab him in the back, but he never does, and all of the old players just stare at him, waiting, expecting it...

So unwilling to trust. Disappointed

i've got my fingers crossed that Toturi does the foul deed this time, and we end up with Emperor Shoju

Well technically, the old storyline ended with a Hantei on the throne again... :)

YEAH salt that wound! never let 'em forget! we got that throne! then everything died....

Also happy to see a Shinjo leading the Unicorn again!

Bye Moto!

Falcon are their own people again (though I would like them to still have the Toritaka name) and the only filth the Sparrow have to deal with is under their fingernails. What a great time (again)!

Yeah so what's this talk about a Hantei being 'back' on the throne.

Or is this thread talking about Hantei Kanpeki??? In which case... HELL YEAH!!!! :D

I kind of agree, I didn't hate Toturi, but I kind of like the synergy with the Kami and the clans. I was really hoping Daigotsu would take the throne and reinstate the line and name.

Eh, if they want to play the revolving doors throne game, best way to do it would be to introduce an office of Shogun directly into the reboot, and leave the poor emperor alone. Let Clans fight over the shogun and you don't need to change the dynasty name every two tournaments.

I'd be fine with that. It worked for Japan, after all. :-)

It also would have the benefit of the Shogun character still being, well...a character who can participate in conflicts and stuff. Being Emperor is a one way ticket to being handled idiot ball, because competent and unopposed Emperor doesn't provide good plot potential :P while Shogun isn't divine, can have their own agenda to pursue, and there are forces that can actually try to oppose politically and ideologically them without being TRAITORS TO THE EMPIRE.

Untrue. The throne moved to the Colonies.

That would be so him, right? :)

The people moved. Kanpeki ruled over Rokugan, just as his father had intended. As his birthright intended!

No the Shadowlands' border just moved north. Home is where the heart is and the heart of Rokugan is with its people in the Colonies.

Keep telling yourself that. In (fictional) reality, the weak people who fled to the colonies only did so because the Spider made it a nice place to live. Don't worry, in the AEG future storyline, the spider take that back as well. ;)

Who said anything about the Spider? The strategic withdrawal from the mainland was caused by a horde of oni and the loyal Spider under their Champion Susumu Shibatsu took part in it.
