Questions involving the Destruction of Units

By Ultimate Wombat, in Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition

I noticed that one of the Secret Objective Cards requires all three of a players' Space Docks to be on Mecatol Rex in order to be completed. This means that the player must somehow destroy his starting Space Dock.

Is the player allowed to destroy a Space Dock (or any other unit) in order to build it elsewhere? Or does he have to wait for someone else to destroy it through a space battle? If the player can destroy units on a whim, at what point in the game round should he/she do so?

I believe the card says you have to have all 3 space docks in play and control Mecatol Rex, NOT that they have to be ON Mecatol Rex.

As for destroying your own units, you can "scuttle" them during the Status Phase.

Thanks. Can you "scuttle" ground units too (Space Docks, PDS's, Ground Forces)?

You can scuttle any plastics you have (space dock, pds, ground forces, fighters, dreadnaughts, etc.). Also note that you can only have one space dock per planet, so it wouldn't make any sense to require you to have all three on mecatol rex.

Right. Thanks for your help

A couple things to note:

1) You have to wait until after the "Score Objectives" part to scuttle units. Most of the time this won't matter, but this was made a ruling (may be in the FAQ, too, I'd have to look) to prevent someone from scuttling their own space dock to prevent their opponent from claiming the Blockading a Space Dock objective.

2) If you scuttle Ground Force units, and have Gen Synthesis, you do NOT roll for them to revive. (Again, this was ruled by Corey, I don't think this one made it to the FAQ yet).
