Rebel Synergy - Red Leader

By Sir13scott, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Red Leader (100)

Wedge Antilles (35) - X-Wing
Swarm Leader (3), R5-P9 (3), Integrated Astromech (0)

Kyle Katarn (34) - HWK-290
Juke (2), Twin Laser Turret (6), Jan Ors (2), Moldy Crow (3)

Wes Janson (31) - X-Wing
Adaptability (0), R3 Astromech (2), Integrated Astromech (0)

ok this list obviously falls apart when elements are removed but hear me out.

Slow play tight formation to build up focuses on the moldy crow.

Engagement round Wedge and Wes target lock, Kyle evades, and then Kyle passes Wedge a focus.

Wes shoots first and tries to cancel an eyeball to get an evade token, while also stripping a defensive token. Then Wedge shoots a focus + target lock 5 dice attack thanks to swarm leader at a now lower agility tokenless ship. Then Kyle cleans up with TLT.

If you need to disengage the swarm, R5-P9 helps Wedge recover especially with passed focus tokens from Kyle. Kyle's TLT is very effective thanks to juke, and Wes just works as a priority token stripper Cancelling eyeballs for evade tokens as needed.

I know, I know... it's not very competitive. But come on! That's some Rebel synergy you know you want to fly!

Where's Red Leader?

From Wookepidea

Sometime prior to Operation Yellow Moon, Wedge Antilles was given command of Red Squadron.[11] Antilles continued to serve as Red Leader during the climatic Battle of Endor.[1]

also it's because I painted my HWK to look like the angry bird (red) and because this list relies on Swarm "Leader"

I believe juke only works with primary weapons doesn't it?

A very nice themed list with good creative thinking :)

I would like to know how well you do with it

No Juke is just, "when attacking"

Nope just small ship only. No need to bring fat han back

I give you props for including three of the most endearing EU characters in a cunningly crafted list (even if it ends up being jank). I'd also like to hear how you do with it!

Well holy ******* ****...I never realized 0_0

Totally gonna fly that new tie with a turret upgrade in a swarm of tlt juke fest now XD

Wedge shoots before Kyle so he would use Kyles evade before Kyle shoots, so Juke is kind of wasted. I would say replace it with Predator but your already at 100. Lone Wolf? But that would require some disciplined flying.

Juke is more for when you disengage or don't swarm leader

Yeah but most TLT ships end up spending evades for defense before getting to juke because you usually take the lower PS ship for a cheap TLT (that and they don't have an EPT) Jan crew is like the only way to get that juke going consistently. But you are right, the new tie might change that)

Oh and I guess the attack shuttle can do it well too... never considered that...

Where are the TIEs getting the evades for juke?

Good catch. Yeah Jan crew on Kyle and then Ezra, Sabine, and Hera are the only consistent ways to do it. You can do Palob if your lucky but that's about it.

The theme you're going for is excellent here, but one thing stands out to me.

I really don't like the concept of R3. You're going out of your way to not modify an attack dice to get an evade. And in this case the evade is going to feed a dice to Wedge. Wouldn't it be easier to go ahead and get a hit result with Jess through a focus token/target lock?

The only thing I can think of here is you're expecting to go up against high agility ships and three hits don't give you damage necessarily, so you're saving a focus for defense and giving ammo to Wedge. Wedge will roll five dice to their 1-2 so he makes a bigger impact. Wedge will have to use a focus/TL to maximize the added dice, which will make the regen more difficult.

I'm not saying by any means that this wouldn't be fun or potentially dangerous but providing feedbacks on the list's limitations. In any case, I'd love to hear how the list does in action!

You're not wrong in your assessment. One of the reasons I even have it in here is I can't image where else I'd want to use that droid. I think it's working ok here though in that Wes is damaging even without doing damage because he strips tokens and then the evade feeds Wedge. This list isn't meant to be competitive I'm just trying to get as much crazy synergy as I can :P I've had enough competitive matches and I just want to see how crazy I can get and play a beautiful game.

Stripping tokens and feeding Wedge is a great gameplan. At least with Jan, you'll have the option to add one die to Wedge's roll every round. Just for reference, here was the last Swam Leader Wedge list I used:

Wedge - Swarm Leader, R2-D2, IA
GSP x2 - Snap Shot, Crack Shot, Chardaan Refit, Title
Ahsoka - VI, Sabine's Masterpiece, Captured TIE, Sabine, Ion Bombs

I flew Ahsoka straight towards an Intercetpor he had and hit it with the ion bomb. Parked the A-wings in front of it and Snap Shot'ed it twice. Fed the evades to Wedge. Wedge went down too quick for R2 to really work. Ended up losing the A-wings so I was stuck with Ahsoka vs. Inquisitor. 3 vs. 2 dice meant I would eventually lose. And did. It was a fun game though.

I assumed they had evade on action bar cause they're ties. You telling me they don't? ;(

Slap a lightweight frame on it. That'll help. I have a feeling the Aggressor will live up to its name. Fly in, do some good damage, blow up.

The point was to use the evade for juke+tlt shots lol

Attack shuttles and Kyle+Jan crew still works

Try R3-A2 rather than R3 Astro. I tried R3 Wes in a similar set up, it just doesn't happen enough. I love the idea but the card is too unreliable.
