Would allowing destroyed ships to shoot back regardless of PS disrupt balance too much?

I'm also seeing a lot of replies saying that Soontir destroys things before they can shoot back, to which my answer is, no, Soontir takes his shot with no return fire because he's out of arc, PS mattered in activation, not combat. If you leave it up to your red dice whether or not he's taking return fire, you're asking for trouble.

Who is this Soontir you all speak of?

I keep trying to come up with "Squadron Abilities" that would buff groups of non-unique ships without breaking the game.

"At the start of the combat phase, you may discard this card. If you do, friendly ships that are destroyed but have not fled the battlefield are not removed until the end of the combat phase."

No idea how you could cost that appropriately. Also can't let Rebels get their filthy hands on it. Because Biggs.

Biggs isn't so good that giving him Fel's Wrath's ability would make him OP.

I could see this being a unique pilot ability some day in the future. Basically like a Fel's Wrath ability for any friendly ship at range 1. As long as they attach it to a ship that is pretty fragile, like Leia in a Naboo Starfighter.

The way the game is designed: Yes, it would destroy too much. And I'm not talking about Fel's Wrath. PS bids from Tempest to Storm, or Alpha to Avenger, or Rookie to Red would mean nothing. Pilot skill would have little meaning in fights between two sides that have little/no repositioning, you'd be getting rid of half the reason to have the pilot skill system in the first place. Pilot skill bidding during waves 1-3 added a lot of nuance to squad building back then and the game in general then.

The way the game's competitive meta is now: Not much. Most PS bids now are taken in order make use of a named pilot's ability, get an EPT slot you wouldn't have with the cheaper generic, or using high PS repositioning. If Colonel Vessery was PS 2 with an EPT he'd still be just as good.

You're paying the extra points for the PS 5 Starviper or PS 6 TIE Defender or PS 9 Interceptor for reasons other than the ability to PS kill things.

Why would you want this changed? Do you not like high PS alpha strikes like Ketsu Bossk? Do you just want the ability to fire with an Academy pilot at least once?

It's an interesting idea.

It would mean every one of your ships has to keep shooting Biggs even after he has been destroyed. It could be very OP and would certainly be no fun.

That's a good point, and one I had not thought of. I think an FAQ entry to fix that would be fairly easy, though.

It's called Swarm Tactics, you know, that EPT that people don't use anymore.
