Character with shields and Second Chance takes unblockable damage to trigger Second Chance. Do the shields stay on the character after the fact?

Second Chance: "Before attached character would be defeated, instead heal 5 damage from it and discard this upgrade from play."

What makes you think they would go away?

Second Chance: "Before attached character would be defeated, instead heal 5 damage from it and discard this upgrade from play."

Shields stay on the character because it is not defeated at all (Second Chance triggers with a replacement effect)

2nd Chance, Ammo Belt, Planetary Uprising, Hyperloop.

These are, ironically, the tools of the dark side, and they will grant you victory, or cause your opponent to flip the table. One of the two.
