Playing with options to update Devastator to wave 5. Builds on my experience playing competition Devastator list for the latter half of Wave 2. Thoughts welcome. Especially suggestions for changes to the objectives and squadron loadout.

Did you not find 4 heavy impotent squadrons to be entirely pointless?

I'd go for generic spam to get your deployment count up. Or if not Jonus, Zertik, jump, mauler.

Capture the vip and solar corona seem better. First player seems better still.

Actually a large part of that fleets failing was the two Arquitens, which were kitted poorly and flown worse. If anything, the Lambdas were the one bright spot there and consistently performed their function effectively. Which was to mess around with enemy token objectives.

That said I have 60 points to spend on squads, 66 if I take out the Comm Nets and Titus. Make me an offer on how to use that effectively.

If thats how you found it then do 1 thing. Swop 1 lambda for Valen Rudor.

I like this. I swapped out one shuttle for Valen, dropped Titus, and bought Point Defense Reroute to make the ISD more dangerous to squadrons.

Thought I'd offer a quick update after a small local tournament.

Incredibly, Devastator lost all its tokens in all three games without dying once. This includes the loss (to ItzSteve ) in game 2, where it ended up being the only friendly model left alive on the board and went for four full rounds before taking any hull damage, despite shooting every round!

Thoughts:

  1. Devastator can work in Wave 5, but you still need to carefully control your engagements.
  2. Multiple Lambdas are much better at killing squadrons than you might think, especially when paired with an invincible wingman guarded by 16 squadron hull points.
  3. If you take a risky command for a big payoff, you'd better make sure you're in a position to use it when it comes up.
  4. When you roll 4 red blanks, 8 blue dice that all count for damage still kills almost anything you want it to.
