I think way of the Crab makes both players sacrifice a character. So it pay to have a 0/0 spud.

I'd also like to buck the trend with Mantis a little: Moshi Wakiza needs story time, especially if she's going to still be Ms. of Storms. The Moshi got shamefully little story given how significant they were supposed to be to the Mantis and the Alliance.
At this point in time in the original, Moshi Wakiza is the heir to the Daimyoship of the Centipede Clan, a Minor Clan ruled by priestesses of Amaterasu. She'll do nothing for the Mantis at this point.

Oni no Akuma was the original, grammatically incorrect spelling of the card. Later editions changed the name to Akuma no Oni , but it's the same guy.
In one of the previews (which I can't locate now, naturally), there was a Lion stronghold named Shiro no [????]. Was wondering if it's possibly incorrect as well, since it essentially forms "[????] of Castle" rather than "Castle of [????]," at least according to my very limited understanding of Japanese sentence structure.

You can squint and persuade yourself that it means "[????], the Castle," because "no" is used for attaching several kinds of descriptors, not just possessives. But you have to squint pretty hard.

Correcting some stuff like the Oni naming but keeping the Shiro stuff is... curious. I miss Oni no Cilla .
Ah, yes. It seems to just not be showing the images on my phone. Story of my life *le sigh*

Yup! It's incorrect. Shiro no Yojin is supposed to mean "Castle of Vigilance". I don't know why it wasn't fixed. You'd think this would be the perfect time to do so.
Ginawa, either Lion Clan or Ronin.
The Hida Kids: Yakamo, Sukune, and O-Ushi(By the fortunes, I hope that art of the Hida woman is O-Ushi). Also Hachiman(Kamoko's Horse) because in the original lore it curbstomps Junzo.
Honestly it's not so much a hope for certain characters to be in the game (they will), so much as when/how they're depicted. I.e. Tadaka as a magistrate acolyte of earth, before becoming Master of Earth.
For that reason I'd also like to see previously uncarded and only partially known Elemental Masters like Isawa Rujo who was Master of Earth before Tadaka, or Isawa Eju, the Master of Air before the more iconic Isawa Uona.

I'm hoping the Kolat are still around! I have this notion they engineered the company change as a way to promote Men over Gods. And power, always power...
As they said yesterday, the best place for a conspiracy is hidden.
As a spiritual person, I find the Kolat are a satisfying adversary and would be sad not to have them return.

That's odd, being a spiritual person is what makes me such a devoted member of the Kolat.
I come at it from a place of looking at our own world and not believing humans have shown themselves capable of being their own masters.
I look at it as Rokugan lacking an all powerful creator deity that would be worth of devotion. So what 'gods' there are are just very strong spirits looking to preserve their own authority. So humanity can only count on itself to look after its own interests.
Plus I've never really liked the idea of reincarnation so an organization looking to render it obsolete is okay in my book.

As someone who likes the in-setting adversaries to have actual achievable goals, I have always found the Kolat to be a special, special kind of lame... I mean, I'm fairly certain we're stuck with them, but I have never found the philosophy club with delusions of adequacy terribly useful.

Riiiiight, numerous examples throughout history, not to mention the latest candidates across the globe
Safe to say it would be best if we were ruled by divine and infinitely wise beings instead of humans

That's fair. I guess when I invest myself into the L5R setting, I try my best to relate to the characters within the setting despite the deliberate dissonance between their values and mine. The story is still a very human one; it just has a lot of baggage derived from the fact that it's modeled on a philosophy antithetical to that of its primarily Western audience (indeed, Shourido could to some degree be looked at as capitalism in a nutshell).

My favorite clans are Dragon and Lion...they already mentioned Toturi but I'm really hoping that Togashi Mitsu is in the core. I loved firing up the tattooed madman!
In the Core Set? Any of these:
Utaku Kamoko is in the story but just in case.
I'll go in reverse, I guess. So in the early core, there was a problem with big armor clad musclemen of varying shades being in charge of and featured a whole lot: Hida Kisada, Yoritomo, Togashi Yokuni. Just different shades of the same armored dude.
Kisada is in, and I like that. That seems correct to me. Yoritomo will also show up eventually because you don't ignore the posterboy.
So... I'd like the see anyone but Togashi Yokuni as the Dragon Clan champion, or at least an altered version to make the Dragon champ distinct. Old feeble looking man, bald monk woman, anything. Let the other two own the "fully decked out monster" space and find something more philosophical and wise for the Dragon.
