They gave some in-lore justification for the change linked to the ritual method or who was dominating between the summoner and the oni or something like that. I don't remember exactly.

Actually, I wonder a bit about named personalities. Since the core set is evergreen, anyone they include will be available for storyline tournaments forever. So in that sense, for flavor reasons, I almost hope the first few dynasty packs have mostly unique characters. Keep generic peeps in the core set.

Well, my favorite old-school fixation fits right in here - Mirumoto Satsu. I'm not sure how much I really want of just doing alternate-universe versions of all of the characters we already know and love and saw a lot of (e.g., I love Hitomi, but she and Yakamo got a long long plot taken to completion, and I'm not sure I want to see a retelling of that rivalry). But my boy Satsu is basically his one L5R Classic story, and it's him dying. If he existed in a similar form in this version of the setting, he would be the shining golden boy of the Mirumoto, and that would let us see him in a completely different way.

Some Naga. Any one would make me happy. If I could choose, Dashmar, but any Naga would make me ecstatic.

I'm glad to see we have Ujimitsu (and if FFG is really on the ball he'll be non-unique) and it would be a crime if we didn't get Shiba Tsukune. I'm wondering what the chances are that we'll see "Shiba Yojimbo" as a generic personality with the Tsukune artwork, though.

I would love to see both Ryosei, Tsuruchi, and Yoritomo released eventually and at the same time to give Mantis players story options to develop the clan in different directions! Or just have Ryosei bring back the Fox clan. Love that Fox clan.

@Drudenfusz : If Yogo Hiroue is an indicator, we'll get more than just the clan champions. I suspect between 4 and 5 uniques per clan in the core set, with a few unique neturals as well.

I'd also like to buck the trend with Mantis a little: Moshi Wakiza needs story time, especially if she's going to still be Ms. of Storms. The Moshi got shamefully little story given how significant they were supposed to be to the Mantis and the Alliance.

A lot of great Crane but Doji Kuwanan woud be my pick.

Except much of his flavour was due to him being the second (spare) son.

So here's me hoping for a younger sister of Doji Hotaru who was either trained by our greatest friends the Phoenix or our greatest enemies the scorpions.

By the same token... not all Daidoji face-wreckers should be Harriers. In fact,most shouldn't be.

Isawa on the battlefield should be a thing, but relatively rare- the Shiba are supposed to do the fighting, after all, and even the Phoenix shouldn't be idly fielding large formations of battle shugenja.

Hopefully, the Unicorn don't turn into a monocultural Mongol approximation.

And so forth.

Part of my trepidation about this era was that it's not exactly renowned for its nuance.

I'm personally hoping that this isn't going to be "this era" but a syncretic reboot that combines what was best about Clans, including how they evolved, and makes them like that from the start.

True. Making all the daidoji harriers and lateron Iron Crane removed a lot of flavour.

I just want a Daidoji scout with 0 glory with a sacrifice or burn fate ability who shall never be named.

Kisada, Yakamo, O-Ushi, Yasanura, Taka, and Kage.

I'd like to see Kisada sibblings, Hida O-Ushi and Sukune, his kids (Hida Yakamo please) and grandkids (Kuon and Kuroda). I also would love it if Yasuki Taka was back and Kuni Utagu for some witch hunting. These were the good times for me, brings back lots of memories. I also hope to see Hida Tenshu back, such an iconic crab character and we need some berserker action!

Looking at the released pictures so far, Crab already have their own Toku in the form of Eager Scout.

I would love some Horiuchi love but with the change in Unicorn Champion and all, we may not even have Horiuchi Shoan. Or Shinjo Shono. Or Shinjo Haruko.

I want Utaku Baiken. He and Kamoko were staples in my decks.
