Quick QoL enhancements.

By WWHSD, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I've been doing a couple of quick things to my bases that I think have worked out well. I figured that I share them and see if anyone has any similar things they've been doing.

The first thing that I've been doing is taking a little bit of white paint to fill in the arc markers on one side of each base. This gives my bases a clear marked front.

The other thing I'm doing is putting a bit of paint inside my bases and on the bottom of my minis. This lets me quickly put infantry figures back in the their bases in the correct position for their pose. Front left is blue, front right is red, back left is white, back right is green. The color on the bottom of the figure matches the color in the recess in the base.

Any other ideas out there along these same lines? I'm tempted to cut out the pegs to make the models go into and out of the bases more easily but I'm wondering if there will be enough wear after a dozen of so games that the peg won't be a problem.

Regarding the pegs: I found the tightness of for on my spearmen to be from slightly out-of-round bases, not the pegs. So I slaped on a layer of paint around the edge of the bases, put them in and out a few times to see where the paint was scraping off. Then took a file and temoved just a bit of plastic where the paint was coming off. They now for nicely snug while being easy to insert and remove.

Wait, the figures have a specific slot they belong in? O.o

Is that just something you decided on based on aesthetics, or something I missed entirely?

I'd say it's aesthetics.

For me personally, I can't stand to have more than one of each sculpt in each tray, and I need the sculpts to change position from tray to tray to make a mass of troops appear as non-uniform as possible.

Taking a black sharpie to the edge of your command dials makes them look better on the table.

I also went ahead and painted the dial stands black. Looks nice, and gives you an easy way to tell your components from others'.

I took positioning a step further. I am painting squad leaders and such.

Shoulder pads, hoods, etc.

Honestly the best thing I've done is magnetize them. It takes SOOO much pain away from having to wiggle and work the figures out of their tray while they're engaged with another unit. Now it's literally just lift it off when it's dead and it'll still stay put even when upside down. Seriously, life saver.

In this case, do the magnets go under the tray and under the mini's base?

Take a peek in the painting and modelling section. A number of people have done it.

I posted instructions in my thread.

I clipped the pegs off the trays, put a metal disc where the pegs where, and glue a small magnet into the slots on the bottom of the figures. It's more work but it works so well just lifting off the minis with ease.

It seems like the Infantry units fit in with less bumping into each other when I put them in certain slots.

What the easiest way to get in there to clip the pegs?

I used toenail clippers, the kind that are convex.

I've just been clipping them with sprue clips and sanding them down just because I couldn't find my proper snips. It's not ideal. Bumyong may be on to something with those fingernail clippers. Whatever will give you a clean surface to be those flat discs on really.

The pliers from games workshop or revell work Great too. Even you do not need those due to you have no casting frame it is a very helpful tool.

Clip the pegs. PVC is fairly tough it's not going to get any looser.

As for the positions and pose variance, I recommend just modifying the angles of the arms and swapping them between the varoius poses. It's really easy to do by just cutting the corners off the puzzle-piece-style pegs on the arms. I got so much variation with my figs that there's no need to pay attention to what fig goes in what slot.
