No Upgrades

By Amanal, in Star Wars: Destiny

Been thinking about this for a while and have been wondering would it be possible to bring two or more characters each and 30 events?

Don't want entire decks, but what pair of characters and say 2-5 cards would you look at including and why?

Hmm, only events? Without upgrades I'd probably stack vehicles, resource ramp, and action economy. I don't know about just events. Direct damage like Riposte and Saber Throw come to mind.

I cut down to 30 cards from 50, so many nice cards for this deck. I looked at Hero, but man do they just not have points cost that play into this idea.

Loyal Trooper is in because he costs right and has high health, Emo Vader has that sweet little special and a half decent dice by himself.

No Dice at all?

I have tried a Veers vehicle only deck. It was not competitive but it was really fun :P

No upgrades I could play, but I would HAVE to have Supports. The game might not be there yet to do that though

I don't think there's any viable reason to do this. You're going to have bad economy, because you a) won't have any extra dice to generate more resources, and b) won't be able to afford to resolve your character dice for resources. So that pretty much eliminates running vehicles or any kind of expensive events. You can run alternate economy cards, but your still going to be very slow and you're not really getting any benefit out of it by not running upgrades. So that leaves you with playing a couple of events a turn, and then....lots of rerolls, I guess?

If you really want to run an upgrade light deck, then SoR possibly gives you enough legs with a few cheaper upgrades for money, and then focus on playing the big supports (Falcon/U-Wing/Launch Bay etc).

There is actually....

Cheaper and faster way to play this game. Is it THE BEST deck you could possibly build? No. Would it be fun to pick 2 or 3 characters and a deck made up of 30 cheap common and uncommon cards (and your opponent do the same?) YOU BET! I'm totally going to try this soon with some friends.

Maybe, I haven't played the deck so I want to reserve judgement. I like the idea of just playing a wacky deck building and trying to make something unusual work.

Hey, I don't want to stop anyone playing stuff for fun. My point was that 'absolutely no upgrades' seems like it's a major restriction with no upside, when 'not many upgrades' still captures a similar idea but would probably work much better.

I think this might be as close to "legit" you can be running only 30 events. Palpatine is already possibly the most fun you can be having in the game right now, and this just makes it even more wacky.

As much cheap or free control as possible, and tons of digging to try and stay alive. Premonitions on a Rise Again is obviously the dream, even if you aren't getting a free upgrade.

Maybe a 2xJyn/Ackbar discard deck with a lot of control. The econ will be an issue, so a support or two may be needed.

I can see a deck very good at discarding people and controlling dice being rather competitive. I do believe the key to such a deck is the discarding though, for the added control, and mill may be its win condition.

I've toyed around with two Trooper, Bala-Tik, Nightsister with no dice providing upgrades or supports. Played Drudge Work, Underworld Contacts for tons of resources. Did damage with Reversal, Backup Muscle, Deflect, etc. Then played every other control card printed. It worked pretty well at first (actually dominated my friends before we all had play sets) but as decks started to evolve and action advantage was in everything, it couldn't compete.

I have a feeling that'll be the trend for any event only deck. It'll rely on control, which has been weakened so much that you can't rely on it anymore. 7 damage with no response time seems to be a normal occurrence nowadays.

Nightsister has a great ability and Power of the Dark Side gives the Troopers a 4th damage side. Between Blue and red, there are enough tricks to make a fun deck with no upgrades.

The other thing I like about this idea is now support with dice become the only real way to bring in new dice. Many of my more expensive support cards have sat lonely in a binder just waiting to be played....
