Considering that the attacker decides which models to remove as casualties, I assume he/she can eliminate a full tray off the bank rank before moving on to assign remaining damage?

Yeah, you are. Unless it messes with who your friendlies are engaged with, no reason not to focus down full trays.

Ranks in this game are specific to the trays not the row of models. So the back most rank is technically the back 2 rows of models for infantry, meaning yes you are doing it right you can remove a full tray before doing jack to the next.

Its the main reason the Reanimates' ability isnt utterly broken, since really all it does is remedy outright terrible attacks (2 damage, either from bad roll or you raisd your defense) or mend excessive attacks (6 damage removed a tray and 2 models, regen'd the 2 models back assuming runes were in your favor). If you had to remove a whole row of models first then it would take forever to remove a tray from a massive blob of reanimates.
