One thing I like about the fate mechanic from a story point of view is that you, the player, get to decide how important each person is to the story of this game. You can treat your people as disposable assets who come and go, or if you'd rather, you can dump 6 extra tokens on your favorite person and they will stick around for basically the rest of the game, glorious and immortal.

Until their destiny is cut short by getting lost on an endless plain or dying in a duel.

Well maybe it's not a great plan to send your destined champion to take on the Unicorn clan all by himself.

See: Gaheris, Chagatai.

Sorry oDESGOSTO, I can't take you seriously anymore. You are raging about a failed game that hasn't come out yet, that you have never played. You are using vague "facts" that you can barely back up and are proven wrong by your own facts. It is just getting rather silly. I feel bad for you.

so sales of other LCG's are better than GoT?
How are VS and Doomtown doing?

I loved Doomtown: Reloaded. That game was great. AEG is terrible at managing their games. I hope the new developer can manage it better.

#longlivedoomtown

yeah not slamming Doomtown at all...just trying to show that Desty is making a lot of things up.

Well, the Moto have not returned to the Unicorn clan at the time they are starting this storyline, so you may have a fighting chance.

With some of the Gender re-set...

Doji Hotori was best friend of Akodo Toturi, so Doji Hotoru maybe lover or remain the best freind to Akodo Toturi? Kachiko and Hotoru maybe rival / best friend at the same time?

Moto Tsume was in base set.... :D

Moto Tsume is shadowlands and suffering the Moto Curse. He exists to be a thorn in the side of the clan. The Moto don't return until Gaheris rides in from the Burning Sand accompanying the Kami Shinjo.

I know I know... just saying you was asking for Moto.

But at least in RPG, the Moto was still part of unicorn just a very small part. So you will still see Moto some where.

The more I think about it the more I hate the draw system for the game. It is just too focused on making this a 2 player game, which are extremely rare to play in my group. I've played plenty of CCGs with my group, including the previous L5R, but this mechanic seems like it would be a major annoyance for more than 2 players and a little clunky even for 2 players.

I can see ways around it but it just seems like it would make the draw phase even more clunky and may not even work for sure. I really wish they would have done something to make it more friendly to multiple players. I now find myself hesitant to buy this game. There really is no point in investing in it if I can't play smoothly with multiple people since it will get played once a year, if I am extremely lucky.

It's not hard to adapt the draw system to multiplayer:

Pair off top and bottom bids, and those two exchange. Pair off the next two, and so on. If there is an odd number middle player gets their draw for free.

Edit: in case of ties involving middle player, she gains or loses the same amount as whoever she tied with, from the bank.

You could easily throw out the bid rule and just say that everyone draws 2 cards during this phase.

I thought about that but there is also honor involved with the card drawing, which is a victory condition. It could cause a lot of problems for a deck designed around wining by honor vs ones that are going for military victory.

Then you could always make it not a comparable number. If you draw 1 card you lose 0 honor, draw 4 and you lose 3.

That might be clunky, just offering alternatives.

I enjoyed the Decipher SWCCG, but wow did it get cumbersome with fiddly little rules there. You could explain the basic game to a newbie in a few minutes, then show them the 40 page tiny print book of exceptional rules that each applied to 1-2 cards.

Not going to lie: I always liked SWCCG, but after Special Edition came out with its glossary that included two full pages just on prepositions, I loved it! It taught me to be a much more careful reader in card games, and really helped me better understand how to interpret cards, even in other card games, when the rules seemed strange.

I thought of this, so far it seems like the best solution but it is clunky and tends to slow things down. Especially when you compare it to most games where each player just draws a single card.

Hadn't thought of this. It would speed things up and make them a little less clunky. This may be the best way to go.

I did ask about multi-player at the very beginning of the AMA, and it was rated up, but they chose to ignore it. I think they're keeping that one close to the chest. If the answer was a flat no, it would have been really easy to just respond with that.

You could also roll a d5 for the table and everyone compares their bid to that number for honor purposes.

The Moto didn't get love in the CCG until... Moto Soro in Hidden Emperor? The non Shadowlands Moto, I mean. But in theory, as the RPG says, they were there but not attraccting attention due to shame of Moto Curse, I guess. Funny because Horiuchi Shoan, until Moto Soro, had more presence than the Moto family despite having inferior numbers. :P

So, the Unicorn are clearly based off of the Great Khan and his hordes. Which makes them the best clan in all of Rokugan right?

The least Rokugani clan. They have adopted barbarian ways!

They said Hotori is still in the game, Hotoru is his sister
