Yea, it looks like the Way of the Dragon is an attachment. From the partial text it looks like it lets you use the attached character's ability an extra time that turn/phase. Which maybe means that character abilities don't bow, but are instead limited by turn?

Yes please god keep all abilities once per turn. I have no desire to fight 2 billion oni again. Old versions had infinite combos and it got hilarious sometimes.

Yes - they're the Ring/Elemental types from battles (I think).

You have five of these cards (one for each province and one for your stronghold), right? Maybe you're required to have one of each Ring? That could help ensure a bit of diversity, especially as expansions come out introducing new cards, maybe?

No, that's in the top-right.

Ah, I looked at them again, and they are a little different. Huh.

Bottom right icon is indeed an elemental symbol... what it is for has not been revealed as far as I can tell

You can clearly see they are the exact same symbols.

No, they're not. The one on Phoenix is the Ring of Void, and the one on the neutral is the Ring of Water. The symbols look similar because of which cards they're on, but they're definitely not the same.

Already fixed my response. lol

Hm. Are we looking at the same cards?

So on Elemental Fury, we've got the "Unaligned" symbol on the top right and the "Water" symbol on the bottom right. On Mori Kuroi, we've got the "Phoenix" symbol on the top right and the "Void" symbol in the bottom right.

Again, I am a slow typist today. :)

That's an astute observation.

We've seen a 2, a 3, 3 4s and part of what might be a 5.

Ah, I missed the Province fan. I'm sure I saw a 5 somewhere though... Seems like some of the fans people are finding aren't in the articles?

Ugh... to all of you attending GenCon, my deepest (slightly jealous) congratulations. It sounds like it's going to be awesome.

The 5 you saw was from a different image, same location as the fan they are referring to... here: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/legend-five-rings-showcase/

I was really hoping FFG would get the rights to use the five interlocking rings logo from the Olympics. #jk

Oh my, that's a fun little blast-from-the-past...

Especially since I went and got that tattooed on my chest. :o

OMGLOL

I was looking at the ring effects.

Because honor is the primary known card draw mechanic, the Earth and Air effects are essentially the same, with Earth being the priority effect of the two, I think even for honor runners.

Similarly, since every turn costs a fate token, Water and Void are essentially the same, assuming straightening effects are limited, because it costs the personality a turn in play. Water stops someone instantly, and Void stops someone on a future turn (unless you remove their last token.) Water seems like an aggressive deck's best friend.

I don't know enough to comment on Fire.

It is my belief that, say, in a deck that doesn't care much about honor stuff, that Water and Earth will be priority plays with Air and Void as the consolation prizes.

It's interesting to note that Void is essentially blank for your opponent if you never invest fate tokens on your people.

Now that we have a little more information, how many (other) folks out there are already working on their conversions/homebrews? I've got my Bear ready to return to Rokugan (although getting a card template's going to be tricky for these card frames), and I'd love to know if anyone else is going to be putting up some fun homebrews!

Shadowlands would be a fun "challenge deck", meant for 2 or more players to hold back a tide of bakemono and oni... I might use the "hour" cards from Seige for that...

I am very much intrigued by the new rules, excited about the things that remained (four provinces, two decks, multiple win conditions), and eager to try it out.

It looks like even if I want to get the full three core sets it will be less expensive than buying boosters and hoping for the right pulls. I'm pretty happy about that given my limited disposable income at the moment. I'm thinking I'll pick up two and see where to go from there.

I love that turns seem to be mostly simultaneous and effectively trim off the first few turns of buying holdings and building up. Games can get right into the thick of things. Bidding mechanic for card draw will be interesting and something new to me.

And since this new rebooted storyline could go in potentially any direction, I look forward to Tsuruchi's Alliance in the future. ;)

Ok now that did my part to promote player unity.....

Time for some speculating!

I think with each of the province cards having an elemental mon in the lower right hand corner, you'll only be allowed to select 1 province card for each element when building your deck.

A ring victory may be something possible down the road. I'm guessing there will be cards that provide bonuses based on how many or what type of rings you have.....maybe leaving the option of ring victories open for future design space. Although allowing someone to attack their opponent's stonghold after 3 provinces have been broken makes me think a ring victory would be rather inefficient, but, possible. Maybe something based on the number of ring actions you have taken during the game?

I'm gonna guess that duels will allow winners to gain more fate tokens and/or losers to lose fate tokens. Or possibly duelists can spend fate tokens to gain an advantage in the duel.

Shadowlands will be back. We already see neutral provinces so a neutral stronghold certainly isn't out of the question. I'll bet there are some shadowlands cards in the base set that have honor penalties and winning or losing with them in major events will have serious story implications. Not as sure about Mantis, Naga, or Ratling.

Story changes are going to be nuts and likely cause FFG to lay down the law for bounties. As many people as there are that want to see Kisada's Army instead of Toturi's Army, or an Oni no Kachiko......there will be plenty of puritst trying to repeat the old stories. Past history with this game has seen some pretty crazy bounties for story rewards and I think FFG is gonna be all over it in a way AEG never was.

That guy that cheated in the Conquest Nationals will try to cosplay as the Hooded Ronin at an L5R tourney and be caught cheating.......and the guy cosplaying as Kisada will have something to say about it. /cracksknuckles

One thing I noticed is that they still haven't addressed the most crucial gameplay mechanic: how are ranged attacks to be represented?!

These preview cards seem to have lots of blank, flavour-less space in their text boxes. :(

I really like that Mirumoto Prodigy with very simple, duelisty ability:

When she attacks a province alone, only one opponent may defend that province.

I wouldn't mind dueling being simplified to abilities like this, honestly...
