Reasonable army size from 2 core sets?

By Polda, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Has anyone tested what's a good limit for army building from just 2 Core sets?
I hear that 200pts requires spamming 9000+ upgrades on each unit so before we get into a 3x6 game with a buddy of mine we want to set a reasonable point limit.

What is the sweetspot here? 160? 170? More points? Fewer points?

That sounds about right.

For the unit formations as they come and leaving out the extra hero the base points come out to

155 for the undead

166 for the humans

By combining units and using figure upgrades(I.E. FLRG) you can bring those base costs down, which results in more flexibility. 180 is probably the max that i would go.

Of course you could just play the 100pt skirmish game. This could help with setting up and practicing with "fireteams" for when you can play 200pt games.

I have played 3 games at this point. My assessment is that even with 2 core sets the army building when trying to squeeze it to 200 points is extremely limited, effectively you can build "THE" army for that faction. Right now with 2 core sets I think you can fiddle a bit with different formations, like split up Lancers or not, 2 or 1 Archer Units, larger or smaller Reanimates.. stuff like that, but that's about it for now. I think the first wave of expansions will swing the door open quite a bit and of course you always have the option of getting a 3rd core set though I think there is a bit of a element of diminishing returns when doing that.

One thing that certainly makes the Core Set robust is the fact that its quite clear that at 200 points, your going to put a lot of stuff on the table. Right now, that is "everything you have in the box", but I believe later we are going to see a lot more deviation like.. skipping Lancers or skipping archers for an army focused on entirely different elements. Right now, short of going for a much lower point cost that isnt possible with 2 core sets.

You can get solid 160+ builds from 2 core sets without slapping stuff on just to raise the points.

It kind of depends on how you split your units, bigger formations have a rebate on the cost so splitting into more smaller formations will get you more points.

With two core sets I've been playing 150-170 pt ranged games on 3x6. The further towards 170 you go the more you're into copious upgrades that you probably wouldn't take in the future.

I'm glad that I have two core sets for sure tho. First, it enables a 3x6 game which is more strategic, second allows me to put on demo games for those that haven't bought into it, third m04r stuff.

Anyway, it's pretty clear that I'll have to buy into a few more expansions to get to the full 200. I'm guessing 2 at a minimum probably.

At minimum when you get the expansions purchasing the hero and infantry expansion should easily take you to 200 points with 2 core sets.

Well I'm getting my 2nd in about a day but I've proxied a game or two at 170 and it's work about as well as it could. For me just playing on the 6x3 is worth it all.
