Perhaps the best part of this game...

By 2Hard, in X-Wing

A couple of years ago my brother was cashed up and went kinda crazy on kickstarter. Laying down serious cash on Zombicide and Journey. An absolute crapton of boxes started rolling in until finally his partner cracked it and he had to get rid of all these unopened boxes and unplayed games. Of course he thought of me, I payed for the postage and a massive case arrived this weekend. I pulled out box after never ending box of miniatures. Peeking in the ones that were opened, the minis are truly exquisite. BUT... they are all unpainted . Well over 200 (maybe 300) of them. If I desire to complete them (and i do) it will take me years, even using Sorastro's speed painting method.

It got me thinking, thank FFG that x-wing is prepainted. It's a great game with great miniatures but if they came unpainted I would not have got into it and I would have missed out. The paint job they come in is more than average and perfectly acceptable. It makes it a total package. Now, to prep and spray....

Next up: whining about the unpainted engine glow.

Amen brother. I have so many 40k minis from 30+ years of collecting, I'd say 5% are painted.

If the ships weren't assembled and prepainted I would not have had any interest in playing.

Worst part of working for GW? had to have 2 armies for each system fully painted in the store ( one was 10k o guard cuz I like tanks)

Best part of working for GW? I can now paint to very good table standard very quickly, and they paid me for it.

Have started painting up some of my X-wing minis in the last six months or so. Got into the game back in wave 4.

Optional painting is fun and rewarding. Mandatory painting or dealing with bare plastic would definitely have kept me from ever trying the game. Miniature Gaming was simply too involved and intimidating to me prior to X-wing.

Was this posted in 2012 and got lost in the lag until just now?

Just another click-bait title with zero substance.

Unassembled miniatures are so much easier to convert and modify. Pre-assembled is harder, since the entire thing is compact enough to require much more precision and care when cutting. I agree on the pre-painted part though. Painting an army to a table standard (because we all love nicely painted minis) is hard, especially if you are not an at least average painter yourself and have to give them to someone to paint them for you.

Exactly like it. Well, except that the title of the latter is clear what the content of the post will be. Oh, and the latter also generated over 11 pages of speculative discussion in four days and is a bit depper and more interesting than "the minis are painted! guys, that's a great thing about X-Wing!" which was perhaps only a substantive bit of info during the speculative period awaiting the game's official release. But yea, I agree, otherwise exactly the same. Good point.

So your post that is up that has 0 to do with the actual game is somehow more relevant than his because it has been on the forum longer and thus has more pages? Your title is just as clickbaity lol.

Agreed 2Hard, I've got plenty of games (hi 40k) to build and paint for... nice to just play X-Wing

I never said either were relevant to the modern state of X-Wing, rather just that one has substance that can stimulate discussion and one does not. Also, one makes you click on it to have any idea what it's about, and the other is upfront and clear. Still not seeing the comparison, I'm afraid.

I think it's not fair to disparage the thread or OP for being "non-substative." They are counting their blessings, which beats the heck out of complaining.

And, for the record, I agree. About half the time I pull out my ships, I'm consciously grateful that they are pre-painted, and pretty well done at that. I, too, would not have picked up yet another grey-plastic minis game, and my life would be somewhat poorer for it. Thanks, FFG!

As for the clickbait title? Well, you could contribute to making it less less bait-y and more descriptive by posting your own opinion of what the "best thing about this game" is. Speaking for myself, I'd be hard-pressed to choose between pre-paintedness, the incredible elegance of the maneuver system, or F***ING STAR WARS!!1!

Definitely agree that having them painted made the decision to jump in board much easier. I want to get around to painting some custom schemes at some point though.
