Royal Defender

By ShawnRBrown, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Just looking for thoughts on how this list might be tweaked up, or what it's major weaknesses might be?

Col. Vessery - VI - Tractor Beam - TIE/D - Stealth Device (40)

Carnor Jax - VI - Royal Guard - Autothrusters - Hull Upgrade (32)

Omega Leader - Juke - Comm Relay - Twin Ion Engine MK11 (27)

Drop stealth on vessary to give Carnor PTL, then drop twin ion mk 2 for stealth device on Omega Leader, then drop Carnor's hull upgrade for targeting computer so he can provide locks for vessary too, then give vessary twin ion mk 2

looks like:

(100)

Colonel Vessery (38) - TIE Defender
Veteran Instincts (1), Tractor Beam (1), TIE/D (0), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Carnor Jax (33) - TIE Interceptor
Push The Limit (3), Royal Guard TIE (0), Autothrusters (2), Targeting Computer (2)

"Omega Leader" (29) - TIE/FO Fighter
Juke (2), Comm Relay (3), Stealth Device (3)

Jax needs PTL, he is too expensive and to weak to be one action, he doesnt want to be caught range 2. And with his ability, boosting and barrel rolling in same turn to get range 1, hopefully out of arc is key to the list and Jax's survival. Turr is probably the one Interceptor that can live without PTL.

Tie/D's are quite easy to hit, so I would drop Stealth Device for a Hull upgrade.

Colonel Vessery (35)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Tractor Beam (1)
Hull Upgrade (3)
TIE/D (0)

"Omega Leader" (21)
Juke (2)
Comm Relay (3)

Carnor Jax (26)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Hull Upgrade (3)
Royal Guard TIE (0)

Total: 100

Ordnance lists can be a problem. On first engagement OL needs to either TL or focus, and Jax needs to not get shot at. It will take patience. I've one shot many OL's with a Miranda Homing Missile, and have one shot Carnor with a Bossk Homing Missile. Definitely not a jousting list and I would rate it as a high difficulty list. Weak offense, low total HP, but strong abilities that requires good flying.

Stress can also mess this list up. Stresshogs or Braylen will be a problem. Try to engage in tight rock formation so Vessery's tractor beam can get it on a rock so it cant shoot.

Ya, high skill lists are not great for me since I haven't been playing long, but I like Imperials so I guess I am pooched until I get better or the crunchy ships get a way to compete with the one shot killers. We have a local tournament coming up and I am sure 98.7% of the people will be playing a Dengar / Fenn Rau list of some sort.

This. Is. (currently) Truth.

I to like flying Imperial ships, but the current Meta with the combination of stress, alpha/bombs and high hit-points makes for a tough try at taking them with Imperial squads. Flying great and luck of some rolls are the only way to carry the day; it's fun, but mentally tiring....and therefore fun limiting. Here the Scum lists are pretty balanced with Rebel Miranda and Regen/Stress. Imperials are vacant from the mats.

However, the game is designed to be fun with friends or acquaintances, so run with your gut when you can. I love the idea, but to really make he shine in your gaming history, run only Royal Guards. Ryad, Jax and a Royal Guard Interceptor. There. Kit it out as is easy with those birds and fly the mess out of them.

Played a double header yesterday against another Imperial list, your right, it was mentally exhausting but also a ton of fun. I will keep playing the small Imperials, even though many many Scum/Rebel lists can wipe 2-3 TIE's off the board in a single round.

Carnor Jax about to solo Brath / Vess & OL. The game was over, this was a suicide run to end the suffering.

Can you remember what your opponent was running...?

Hmm, I think it was the standard OL with Juke & Comm Relay, Vess and Brath both with I think VI or PTL, X7 and Twin IOns Engines?
