Welcome aboard the Shuttle Tydirium Podcast for episode 49! This week we'lre taking a look at 3 scenarios in a row! One is 'Beggar's Canyon', which Jim whipped up for his gaming group, and the other two missions are from the Gencon Narrative event, 'Assault on Grayskull Base'. Can you tell me the basics of choosing generics for your squad in the GenCon event? I could have sworn that I had heard you guys say at one time that you could only choose generic ships if you had a named pilot that matched. Now I am starting to think I made that up. Are any generic ships within your chosen faction available to use?

P.S. Great show, as always. Loved the discussion of the Beggar's Canyon style scenario.

Actually, you got it reversed. You can only pick a named pilot if you have a generic of that type in your list. So...no saying you want the Inquistor, but not taking a V1 in your list. That kind of thing. :)

Oh, and you want Begger's Canyon pictures?

What do the tipped over ships signify in the Canyon scenario?

Basically, if you want to draft a unique pilot at any point (at the start, or during the event by upgrading a veteran pilot), you need a generic ship of the same type for the unique pilot to replace. The unique pilot replaces the generic pilot in your roster.

So, if you have a list of TIE fighters, TIE Interceptors, and one Lambda shuttle, you could try to draft unique pilots for those ships, such as the ever-popular "Winged Gundark", or "Fel's Wrath". But you wouldn't be able to draft unique pilots that fly ships that you don't have any generic pilots flying. So you wouldn't be able to draft other popular pilots such as Major Rhymer, for example.

There are exceptions for ships that exist only as uniques, such as the ARC-170s and Rebel TIE Fighters. Those have special rules for what kind of generic pilots they can replace when drafted.

Shot down. Just before we take them off the board, we usually tip them over for the photo op. :)

No? Well, they make it easier to see on the YouTube camera. That, and it's hard to forget about them!

SlingPaint got me a whole set of EPIC tokens. I love them...

I think that some ships that gain Vet status will probably grab some of these lesser used pilots. Let's say an Academy Pilot graduates to named. Most of the good Tie Fighter pilots will already have been used. You can grab Winged Gundark who is pretty good for his points. Just his PS alone would be huge in a game with mostly generics. Same for Fel's Wrath. I think most of the time Fel's Wrath's ability wouldn't actually be used as he would be firing before most other ships.

I really start to think that Tie Advanced V1's and X1's will be big in these missions as they are more All Purpose ships for the Empire. If the Aggressor comes out beforehand, I see the same. These guys will do well.

That's true, they would be helpful on YouTube videos for those who don't add token (and other) icons and graphics to the video before posting. Duly noted.

We are all about the LOW TECH and easier solutions here. It takes work to put out those icons all the time. Maybe if we get a Patreon account, we can hire an affordable video editor to do all this for us!

It should also be easy to get the unique pilots for ships that people rarely fly. Guys like Talonbane Cobra, or 'Redline' might be pretty easy to get during the draft.

I'd also think that Talonbane would be really good in this setting.

Hmm. Maybe I should export some Candian non-pale ale beer to GenCon... Is there a specific bribe, er, beer Heychadwick drinks?

You guys are doing a good job on the audio these days even with your current equipment. Looking forward to the next spoiler on the event.

I do like good lagers, especially pilsners. I also like ales that aren't too bitter or dark. Red ales are usually good. I don't like cheap, though. Killian's Red is hang-over in a bottle. So is Yuengling. Wheat beers are fine, too. Golden Belgian Ales are my favorite.

Dude! Lt. Lorrir is going to tear it up in that environment! But do you know who would still flounder? Kir Kanos. Poor guy would get gunned down so hard.

Sorry I'm late. Took me all week to finish.

I have a question on list building. How are you managing the EPTs? Rebel generics are limited to just Awings. It's kind of a limiting factor. I would fly Rebel anyway but curiosity drives me

Rebels have Prototype Pilot and Green Squadron Pilot. With the Rebel Test Pilot title, the Green Squaddie can get an EPT.

Excellent work friend.

So are the drafted named pilots what your generics get to graduate to?

Correct. You put generics in your list and if you have generics for that ship type, you can put those uniques on your draft pick. If you have generics that live through 2 missions, they can graduate to a unique pilot that hasn't been picked yet. If any unique dies....they are gone and can never be used again. If you get your draft pick, then you can use those guys during the first mission.

Yeah, I think right now it's just tough noogies for the rebels, unfortunately.

Prototype doesn't have an ept but yeah...
