Tie Phantom List Needed

By Gold_SquadronPilot, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I am looking for an Imperial list that revolves around the TIE phantom.

My collection includes one of each core set

1 y wing

1 tie interceptor

1 e-wing

1 tie phantom (of course)

1 K-wing

1 ghost

1 Sabine's tie

1 Imperial veterans

1 Rebel aces

and Push the Limit

Hey there. Based on your collection, you don't have a couple of the upgrade cards that are crucial to empire, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun with the lists. Without Autothrusters, Soontir needs to be more careful, but he can still throw a major punch. Take the evade and focus for defense though if you're playing a turret ship.

"Whisper" — TIE Phantom32

Veteran Instincts1

Fire-Control System2

Advanced Cloaking Device4

Ship Total: 39

Soontir Fel — TIE Interceptor27

Push the Limit3

Targeting Computer

2Royal Guard TIE0

Ship Total: 32

Tomax Bren — TIE Bomber

24Crack Shot1

Systems Officer2

Tactician2TIE Shuttle0

Ship Total: 29

Phantom for a @Gold_SquadronPilot (99)

"Echo" (40) - TIE Phantom
Veteran Instincts (1), Fire Control System (2), Recon Specialist (3), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Countess Ryad (35) - TIE Defender
Push The Limit (3), TIE/x7 (-2)

Academy Pilot (12) - TIE Fighter Academy Pilot (12) - TIE Fighter

Use the Academies to block for Ryad, and flank with Echo. If you can obtain/proxy a Twin Ion Mk2, put that on Ryad.

Detail

I don't recommend flying Soontir and Whisper in the same list. Traditional arc dodgers and Phantoms have competing initiative needs. Phantoms want initiative, arc dodgers like Soontir don't.

(100)

"Whisper" (41) - TIE Phantom
Veteran Instincts (1), Fire Control System (2), Tactician (2), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Maarek Stele (34) - TIE Defender
Crack Shot (1), TIE/x7 (-2)

"Deathfire" (25) - TIE Bomber
Proximity Mines (3), Extra Munitions (2), Plasma Torpedoes (3), Long-Range Scanners (0)

Absolutely correct. Not sure why I didn't remember that. I was looking at the collection and forgot the two bids.

Thanks for pointing that out, shouldn't be quick posting while trying to work. lol

Well I disagree. I've flown Whisper and Soontir; or Whisper and Vader many times. Whisper IS an arc-dodger too.

Besides, even IF we accept the argument that 'they have competing initiative needs', it only matters against enemy builds with PS 9 (not common). And then, EVEN if we face such a list, you can argue that you are in a strong position regardless of who gets initiative. Because if you do, Whisper is happy shooting first, but if the opponent does, then both Whisper and Soontir (or other PS 9) are happy to be able to arc-dodge.

For me it just comes down to match up. If you have soontir and whisper both on the board, then I know my target depending on initiative.

If I get initiative with a ps9, then I'm taking whisper down prior to the cloak. If you have initiative, then I know I can line up Soontir for a kill shot, especially without autothrusters or stealth device, based on the OP question.

It's obviously based on a ps9 matchup, but in my local play there's usually a Fenn or two out there.

Except you are forgetting about the potential to arc-dodge (in both cases). There's also blocking. I mean, its all hypothetical, but its not as bad as you are making it sound. As I said, I've flown it many times and have been successful. Even took it to Gencon a few years back and did well.

I wouldn't say forgetting it at all. But I understand your point, just differences in opinion.
