Ketsu and...?

By SubliminalOne, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Lately I've been thinking about effective Kestu can be in the Shadowcaster, but I can't think of who to fly her with. Here are two builds that I've been toying with:

Ketsu Onyo (50) - Lancer-class Pursuit Craft
Veteran Instincts (1), Hotshot Co-pilot (4), Shadow Caster (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

And

Ketsu Onyo (51) - Lancer-class Pursuit Craft
Push The Limit (3), K4 Security Droid (3), Shadow Caster (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

Which build do you think would be more effective, and who do you think the best co-pilot would be?

Bossk- YV666 35
Crack Shot 1
Tractor Beam 1
Homing Missiles 5
Boba Fett 1
4-LOM 1
Dengar 3
Scavenger Crane 2
Guidance Chips 0

Ship Total: 49

Flies like a slop barge, hits like a wrecking ball. Can swap crack shot/tractor beam with others options or a bid to taste.

Spec-Ops Boba Fett can hang out the passenger window and snipe off the opponent's most obnoxious upgrade.

Dangar gives rerolls even after spending the lock, and 4LOM denies the opponent a focus, Homing turns off evade.

With Ketsu option B they both are flying at PS7, which allows them some movement versatility, and perhaps more importantly lets Ketsu double tractor beam Bossk's unfortunate target.

Asajj is an awesome partner for ketsu, less hard hitting but it allows you to play the control game excellently

Lancer-class Pursuit Craft: · Asajj Ventress (37)

Push The Limit (3)

Engine Upgrade (4)

· Latts Razzi (2)

Black Market Slicer Tools (1)

I also think bossk is super powerful next to asajj, this build turns him into a super ship, with burnout slam to flip around fast and be right back in the fight.

YV-666: · Bossk (35)

Trick Shot (0)

Cluster Missiles (4)

"Mangler" Cannon (4)

Guidance Chips (0)

· Dengar (3)

· Zuckuss (1)

· Boba Fett (1)

Burnout SLAM (1)

This is the ketsu platform I feel is best, the vi one is also awesome, but the shadow caster really wants those extra actions if she can get it

Lancer-class Pursuit Craft: · Ketsu Onyo (38)

Push The Limit (3)

Engine Upgrade (4)

K4 Security Droid (3)

· Shadow Caster (3)

Ketsu + Bossk is nasty. Hits really hard for alpha strike if flown right.

I like Ketsu Kath.

Kath Scarlet (Scum) (38)
Expertise (4)
Dengar (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Ketsu Onyo (38)
Push the Limit (3)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Shadow Caster (3)

Total: 100

Kath has full mods for offense and hits hard, so she can just boost or evade for actions. Dream turn is Ketsu hitting opponent and tractor beaming them behind Kath to range 1 :P

I would argue against the YV-666 purely because in order for Ketsu and Bossk to support each other properly you have to slow the Shadowcaster down too much. The YV-666 dial just doesn't compare. I have been flying lancers regularly since they came out and one of their most potent features is their speed and manoeuvrability.

I have flown Ketsu with Assaj frequently and love the way they can encircle an opponent, when I've flown with a party bus I've tied the lancer down negating one of its most potent features or left the YV to be picked apart unsupported.

I never thought of Kath but it isn't a bad idea. Double Lancers would be an interesting pair as well. I like the second option with PTL and K4 (so many actions!), I just thought that VI would give a better chance of catching arc dodgers.

Bossk, Assaj, Dengar, two generic Fangs, two Mangler Scyks.

Dont forget that homing missiles don't spend the target lock so you sill have it for modification.

I like that bossk overall, but I'm not terribly sure that the tractor is going to come into play often. But hey, it's one point.

I might add Zuckuss instead of 4-lom. Even with the Nerf he can really make that missile strike hurt.

Truth, if you want to use the Target Lock for modifying, you can dump Dengar, then either team up old bug-friends 4-LOM and Zuckuss, or new friends Zuckuss and Inspiring Recruit.

As to the Tractor Beam, I gladly pay 1 point for the possible utility it provides, if I can spare it. Though if you're downgrading Dengar to a 1 point crew (Zuckuss or Inspiring Recruit) you can upgrade the cannon to a Mangler. Though with the torpedoes, that seems a bit (extremely) overkill, and frankly unnecessary...

Regardless of the specific option you go with, this is going to be one rude lizard.

Ketsu and Asajj are so common, but has anyone seen Sabine or the generic on the board?

Nope. They're just not competitive at high levels.
